2011 MERCEDES-BENZ SLS AMG

This Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a superb example of the marque’s characterful GT car, blending retro styling, a riotous engine, and hugely entertaining dynamics. Under the bonnet is a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V8, producing up to 563bhp, coupled to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission with paddle shift. The odometer shows 15,505 miles.

The SLS AMG was the first car to be designed and built entirely in-house by AMG, with development aided by ex-McLaren-Mercedes and Red Bull F1 driver David Coulthard. Its ‘gullwing’ doors - the standout feature of this modern muscle car - hark back to the 300 SL of the 1950s.

This car was initially delivered to South Africa in April 2011, where it remained for the first five years of its life, thereafter exported to the UK in early 2016. It was re-registered on these shores on 1 April that year, and has just one previous UK keeper on the log book. The current owner acquired the car 18 months ago.

Its bodywork and paint are reported to be in excellent condition, and while it left the factory finished in Sapphire Red, the appearance has recently been transformed with the application of a high-tech Topaz Skin - a ‘paint protection spray’, which has the lustrous appearance of professional paintwork, but which can be removed by peeling it like a film. For practicality, the inside edge of the bonnet and the body frame around the engine bay were left in Sapphire Red, but otherwise the car has been refinished in gloss black. It rides on 19-inch and 20-inch AMG wheels in satin black, which are in superb condition.

Stepping inside under the theatrical ‘gullwing’ doors, the purposeful cabin remains in excellent order. The seats are trimmed in black leather with contrast stitching, with the same finish across the transmission tunnel, centre armrest, and dashboard. The roof pillars and headlining are upholstered in black micro-fibre suede. It was specified from the factory with the high-gloss carbon interior trim inlays, and with the AMG Performance steering wheel, trimmed in black leather and micro-fibre suede. The equipment list includes dual-zone climate control, heated seats, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear-view camera.

Its last scheduled maintenance was in November 2020 at Mercedes-Benz Brooklands, with the vendor noting that it has had annual servicing throughout its life to date, shown in the summary below. Accompanying the car is the full original book pack, including the stamped maintenance record.

The last MOT test was on 2 November 2020 at 15,471 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories. It has had five annual MOT tests from new, and has never failed a test, nor had a single advisory. The wheels are fitted with Continental SportContact tyres, which the vendor notes have only seen sparing use and remain in superb condition.

This Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is an iconic contemporary super GT, boasting a mighty V8 soundtrack and superb handling, not to mention impressive refinement.
