2011 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 CUSTOM

This Land Rover Defender 110 is a striking custom creation, with a retro-inspired aesthetic and a raft of upgraded components, to make it more durable and comfortable on or off road. As a 2012 model year vehicle, it benefits from the more refined 2.2-litre inline-four diesel, producing 120bhp, with permanent four-wheel drive via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 34,470 miles from new.

First registered in December 2011, this Defender has just one previous owner, and was acquired by the vendor 18 months ago. It left the factory in Hardtop configuration and painted silver, but was recently subject of a year-long customisation carried out by Land Rover specialist Juice Motors in Kent. During this time it was converted to a Series-style open-top design using a full galvanised steel frame and tan canvas roof. The interior was also fully re-trimmed, and numerous components were replaced with harder wearing items.

During the customisation process, the Defender was completely stripped down to the shell, its Hardtop and side panels were removed, as were the original doors. In their place, Series type doors were fitted with removable top window sections, the front grille was swapped to a Heritage style item, and the tailgate was changed to a classic flip-down panel. It was then repainted in a classic hue of British Motor Corporation ‘Island Blue’, which is still in excellent condition today.

Standard steel or plastic body trims, such as the door and windscreen hinges, the wing mirror struts, air vents, and petrol cap, were renewed with high-grade Optimill billet aluminium items. A galvanised front bumper and rear body protectors were added, and the galvanised roof frame was covered in a tan canvas hood with a tinted rear window. The front and rear lights were also upgraded. A new set of heavy duty military-style Land Rover Wolf steel wheels were selected, and repainted in Island Blue to match the body. Finally, the chassis was given a full wax application.

Inside, the original basic utilitarian trim has been replaced with sumptuous hand-stitched dark tan leather with basketweave pattern inserts, covering the new Recaro sport seats, centre cubby storage box, the dashboard section, steering wheel, gear levers, and the sun visors. The lower section of the dashboard, and the steering column, have been re-trimmed in dark tan Alcantara. All of the new upholstery remains in great shape, with only some modest signs of use on the driver’s seat. The centre control panel was repainted in Island Blue, and the heating and ventilation knobs and sliders were renewed with billet aluminium items. There are no electrical faults, and no warning lights.

The last routine maintenance was in June 2020 at 34,108 miles, when a full service was carried out by Juice Motors as part of the customisation and rebuild. The most recent MOT test was on 25 June 2020 at 34,108 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories or defects.

All of the tyres - including the full-size spare - are BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain items that remain in virtually as-new condition. Accompanying the car are numerous receipts from the customisation process by Juice Motors, and the car is documented on the @bluebird_110 account on Instagram.

This custom-build Land Rover Defender 110 is a stunning take on the iconic 4x4, blending modern mechanicals with a heritage style appearance, and finished in a striking 1960s paint colour. Its smart galvanised hood frame means that this is a Defender for all seasons - perfectly usable in poor weather as a reliable workhorse, but turning into a fun top-down cruiser in the warm summer months.
