2011 BMW (E92) M3 GTS - 1 OF 150

DESCRIPTION AMENDMENT: PLEASE VIEW THE COLLECTING CARS COMMENT

This BMW M3 GTS is the apex of the E92 generation, and a very rare opportunity to acquire one of only 150 cars manufactured. Presented in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, under the bonnet is an enlarged version of the ‘S65’ V8, giving 444bhp and a 0-60mph time of 4.4 seconds from 4.4 litres. The only gearbox available was the 7-speed dual-clutch M-DCT transmission, with this example displaying 13,572 miles from new.

First registered on 24 March 2011, this M3 GTS has been with the current owner for the last two years, and has had two owners in total.

BMW announced the limited-run model in November 2009, with a host of small but vital upgrades compared to the standard E92 M3. These included a substantial diet shaving 136kg off the standard model, thanks to the use of polycarbonate side and rear windows, removal of the rear seats, less sound deadening and the removal of the infotainment system. In addition, adjustable KW coilover suspension was fitted, along with upgraded six-piston and four-piston brake callipers front and rear. Completing the changes were the addition of a roll cage, BMW Motorsport bucket seats and adjustable external aero front and rear.

Resplendent in the GTS-specific shade of BMW Exclusive Fire Orange II, this M3 GTS presents in near-showroom condition. The bodywork is protected with paint protection film, with no defects noticeable in the finish. As befitting such a cherished car, the badging, windows and headlight/taillight lenses are also unmarked.

Riding on its 19in ‘Style 359’ M Y-spoke alloy wheels, these are in excellent condition and entirely unmarked save for a stonechip on the right rear wheel. The centre caps do show minor signs of ageing, though this could easily be rectified with a replacement set.

Moving inside, the M3’s motorsport-inspired ethos is demonstrably clear. The Recaro Profi SPG XL bucket seats are in excellent condition with no rips or tears, having been the subject of a full Alcantara retrim. The material is also used on the steering wheel, with very light signs of wear around the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. Schroth Racing four-point harnesses hold both the driver and passenger tautly in place.

The dashboard is in exceptional condition, with no damage to the carbon fibre dashboard inserts or the commemorative sticker marking out this example as #61 of the production run. The vendor reports that all electrical accessories are in full working order, with the roll cage and in-built fire extinguisher adding to the ‘racecar for the road’ vibe.

The GTS’ most recent service was carried out by Simpson Motorsport on 21 October 2019 at 12,348 miles. This entailed replacement of the spark plugs and brake fluid, as well as refreshed engine oil and filters.

Prior to this, this unique BMW was serviced on 18 October 2018, with the same work carried out. Spark plugs and the engine oil and filters were again replaced on 28 July 2015, highlighting the level of attention this limited-run car has received to date. During the vendor’s ownership, new brake pads and discs have been fitted all round.

The most recent MOT test was on 1 June 2020 at 13,570 miles, resulting in a first-time, clean pass with no advisories. Since its first MOT test in February 2014, the GTS has never once failed the yearly examination.

The M3 rides on matching Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, which the vendor advises are in good condition with ample tread depth remaining.

This unique E92 M3 is now available to its next owner with all its original BMW handbooks, stamped service history with supporting invoices, original KW adjustable suspension toolkit and BMW tyre inflation compressor. The cherished numberplate seen in the photographs will also be included in the sale.

Combining a slew of track-oriented upgrades with a strong service history and low ownership numbers, this M3 GTS is a surefire modern classic. It is one of the rarest production BMWs ever made, and an example of the last naturally-aspirated M3 generation. While it would be a cornerstone of any collection, it is built to torment 911 GT3 owners on tracks and B-roads alike.

All UK-registered cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. This vehicle shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.
