2010 PORSCHE (987) BOXSTER 2.9 PDK

This Porsche (987) Boxster is an engaging and practical six-cylinder sports car, presented in very smart condition and with the desirable Sport Chrono package. It is powered by the 2.9-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine, which produces 251bhp, coupled to the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters – allowing the car to accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds in Sport Plus mode.

The revisions incorporated with the ‘Gen 2’ 987 model included minor styling upgrades, a new interior switchgear layout, changes to the suspension and steering, and most importantly the more robust engines that rectified the intermediate shaft issues of the earlier motors.

This UK-market car was first registered on 30 April 2010, and has five previous registered keepers on the log book. The seller acquired the car around two years ago from Porsche specialist Ashgood Classic and Sportscars in Berkshire, and has since covered around 10,000 miles on the road.

Today, the bodywork remains in excellent condition, and is free of accident damage, with flush shut lines and consistent panel gaps. The black paintwork is also in very good shape, although there are some general age-related marks, including a number of small stone chips on the bonnet. All of the light lenses are in good condition, as are the window seals and plastic body trims.

This Boxster’s black fabric convertible hood also presents well, without any rips or tears. There is some slight fading due to UV exposure, but it fits snugly over the frame and looks smart. The car rides on 19-inch Carrera Sport alloys, finished in metallic dark grey paint. The wheels are in superb order, with no kerbing damage, though there is some deterioration to the coloured Porsche crest centre caps.

Turning to the interior, the manually adjustable heated seats are upholstered in black leather with grey stitching, and are in very good order, with only slight wear and creasing to the outer bolster of the driver’s seat. Elsewhere in the cabin, black leather also covers the Sport Design steering wheel, which is in excellent condition, as well as the handbrake lever and PDK gear selector – which both have only very minor scratches to their finishes.

Black carpeting features throughout and is protected by the car’s original black floor mats, which feature the Porsche text logo and grey piping. Factory features include climate control, cruise control, and rear parking sensors. All of the buttons, dials and other electrical items are described by the seller as working without fault.

Mechanically, this 987 Boxster is in excellent condition, having been fastidiously maintained during its time with the current owner, who is also a member of Porsche Club GB. Its last scheduled maintenance was in June 2020 at 63,957 miles, when Porsche specialist Chelsea Carrera performed a full service, including replacement of the spark plugs, drive belt and brake fluid. Prior to this, services were carried out in November 2018 at 56,440 miles, and in January 2017 at 48,461 miles.

The car’s last MOT test was on 28 May 2020 at 63,956 miles, where it received a first-time pass with no advisories. Its wheels are fitted with Pirelli P Zero tyres, measuring 235/35 ZR19 on the front and 265/35 ZR19 to the rear. The seller states that all four were replaced a year ago and that they have 5mm of tread remaining.

This Porsche (987) Boxster is an exciting and usable sports car, which is renowned for its fantastic handling and everyday practicality. Presented in excellent condition and fitted with the coveted Sport Chrono package, this example represents an ideal first step into Porsche ownership, but will be equally at home in a larger collection.
