This Honda S2000 GT is a well-maintained example of the Japanese marque’s frenetic post-millennium performance hero. Under the bonnet is a 237bhp, 2.0-litre naturally aspirated inline-four, using VTEC to soar to a 9,000rpm redline. Power is channelled to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads 73,750 miles from new.

An original, UK-market car from new, this S2000 has six previous keepers on the log book, and has been enjoyed by the current vendor for the last year. As a very late ‘AP1 Facelift’ car, this Honda features uprated suspension and body bracing, larger wheels, and stronger gear shift synchros. It also has the revised front and rear lights, a new alloy wheel design, and reshaped exhaust tips.

Presented in striking Laguna Blue pearl, this S2000 presents well, with only minor age-related marks to be seen. The front lip has been repainted due to stone chips, while the lower edges of the front left wheel arch have slight surface corrosion where paint has chipped off. Otherwise, the paint finish looks very smart, with no signs of discolouration or lacquer damage.

The front and rear light lenses are free of cracks or yellowing, and the electronically retractable black fabric soft top is in full working order with no damage. This example also benefits from a body-coloured hardtop – a highly desirable extra for those who like to use their car in all weathers. It rides on the original set of five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, which are in great shape with no kerbing damage.

Inside, the S2000’s driver-centric cabin reflects the good order of the exterior, with the only real wear of note being scratches and scuffs on the driver’s side seat bolster. The black leather seats are in good order overall, while the hardwearing plastics are free of cracks. Behind the seats, the back of the headrest frames have patches of wear where they have grazed the plastic roll hoops. The digital dashboard is in full working order and there are no warning lights present.

This S2000 was last serviced in February 2018 at 65,475 miles by Honda Lancaster. This entailed replacement of the engine oil and filter, as well as adjustment of the valve clearances. Prior to this, the car was serviced in January 2017 at 61,494 miles and in August 2015 at 52,317 miles.

During the vendor’s ownership, they have carried out an overhaul of the braking system with uprated brake discs, brake lines and upgraded Yellow Stuff pads fitted. An aftermarket DAB stereo head unit has also been fitted along with a lightweight battery, and the rocker cover has been repainted in blue to complement the bodywork.

The most recent MOT test was on 6 February 2020 at 71,648 miles, which was a first-time pass. Advisories were noted for three of the four tyres. These have since been replaced with Yokohama AD08R tyres all around, with the rears still being in as-new condition.

This Honda S2000 GT is an exciting sports car that benefits from typical Japanese reliability and relative rarity. It has evidently been well cared-for by its owners, and remains in largely original condition. Offering a driving experience that is becoming increasingly rare in a world of turbocharged performance cars; this S2000 is an involving modern classic that is sure to delight its next owner.
