2009 BMW (E92) M3 RACE CAR

This BMW (E92) M3 is a fully stripped, converted and professionally built race car which the owner describes as being fast and easy to drive. It would be suitable for further modification, or otherwise is eligible to race straight away in the BARC Saloons series, Britcar Dunlop Trophy and Kumho BMW Championship. The 4.0-litre E92 V8 engine produces 414bhp in stock form, though boasts new bottom end rods replaced by Ray West Engineering and an ECU mapped by Thorney Motorsport. Its power is sent to the tarmac via a six-speed manual gearbox and the car rides on AST inboard three-way adjustable suspension. The odometer currently indicates 72,000 km or 44,739 miles from new.

This M3 was first registered in September 2009, and an online HPI check shows three previous registered keepers on the log book. The car has been in the current owner’s possession for three years, during which time it has undergone continuous servicing as an active race car.

On the exterior, the doors and boot lid have been replaced with lightweight alternatives, and the car has been fitted with Alcon brakes, a carbon-fibre front splitter, Geoff Steel carbon-fibre rear wing, Lexan windows and a custom stainless steel exhaust system. The vendor notes some minor marks to its livery and some ‘milking’ to the carbon-fibre roof, though the body presents very well overall. The vendor notes the original doors and boot lid will be included in the sale.

The vehicle comes with a Custom Cages roll cage and two Cobra racing seats – although to be used for racing, the seats would need to be replaced as they are out of date under current regulations. Also featured is a brand new, unused Corbeau HANS harness, a plumbed-in Lifeline fire extinguisher and a removable Sparco steering wheel. The vendor notes the new owner will find some warning lights present on the dashboard, though as the wiring loom has been modified during the conversion to racing specification, these are all believed to be false positives.

The vendor notes the vehicle has been prepared and maintained by SVG Motorsport in West Sussex since they purchased it. The engine oil, filters, brake pads and brake fluid are checked after every race or test session and replaced as required, with all invoices available.

The last MOT test as a road car was on 4 July 2016, which resulted in a clean pass. The vendor notes that with the addition of the original registration plates and rear number plate illumination, the vehicle would still pass an MOT test today. The vehicle comes with two sets of ex-BTCC slicks, one set of Dunlop ex-BTCC wets and one set of Toyo 888 tyres, all of which remain in good condition.

This BMW (E92) M3 race car is ready to compete and is eligible for the BARC Saloons series, Britcar Dunlop Trophy and Kumho BMW Championship, or otherwise would be suitable for further development. The vehicle features lightweight components, a track-prepared cabin and multiple sets of track-oriented tyres. With its howling V8, as well as upgraded adjustable suspension and more powerful brakes, this E92 BMW M3 is a well-maintained example that represents a great opportunity to own an exciting race car.

All UK-registered cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. While this M3 is now used as a race car, the check shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.
