This 2008 Porsche Cayman (987.1) 2.7 is a desirable mid-engined sports coupe, presented in superb condition with genuine low mileage. It benefits from having a full engine rebuild in late 2018, and a recent visit to Porsche Centre Tonbridge with a detailed Vehicle Health Check on file. This Cayman is powered by the 241bhp 2.7-litre flat-six M97.20 engine, driven through the rear wheels by a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates just 44,054 miles from new, which is evidenced by the detailed service and MOT history.
An original UK-supplied right-hand drive car, it was first registered in July 2008. The factory specification includes Carrara White paintwork with Porsche Tequipment decorative side logos in red, along with 19-inch Carrera Sport 10-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, the seats are upholstered in black leather, and the cabin equipment includes air-conditioning, the CDR-24 audio system and red seat belts. The car also features the optional cruise control and rear parking sensors.
It has been owned by the vendor for the last two years, who has enjoyed around 7,500 miles on the road. He purchased a comprehensive Porsche Approved warranty shortly after acquiring the car, which has covered numerous items during his ownership, including a full engine rebuild.
The Carrara White paintwork is in excellent overall condition. The vendor notes a tiny touch-up pen repair by a previous keeper on the offside front bumper, as well as an equally small paint chip on the nearside rear bumper adjacent to the tail light cluster. Overall, this is a very smartly presented car that is a testament to the care of its owners.
Its 19-inch alloy wheels were professionally refurbished in October 2018, and they remain in pristine condition. The wheel bolts are also in good order. Behind the wheels are the original black anodised brake calipers, and the car also features the factory-supplied exhaust system with the single trapezoidal tailpipe.
The cabin is certainly a focused environment, with high-quality upholstery but few peripheral luxuries to distract the driver. It is equipped with the standard seats that are adjusted manually, trimmed in black leather and accented by red seat belts. The driver’s seat bolster shows only minor surface cracking and discolouration, which could easily be treated by some professional deep conditioning and re-connolising.
The front boot and the rear luggage area are both clean and tidy, with the former retaining the original tyre compressor, tool kit, towing eye and locking wheel nut stowed behind the rear panel. All of the plastic and metal trim around the load bays is in very good order.
This Cayman has evidently been very well looked after by current and previous keepers, and it was last seen by Porsche Centre Tonbridge in October 2019 at 43,708 miles. A full Vehicle Health Check was carried out, which is shown in the media gallery below. The advisory notes included a fault with the horn, which was replaced with a new low-tone unit under warranty, and worn rear tyres, which were replaced with a fresh set to match the brand and type on the front axle.
In October 2018, Porsche Centre Tonbridge was also tasked with carrying out a full engine rebuild under warranty, after identifying a fault in the crankshaft bearing housing. The retail value of this work is understood to have been approximately £8,000. At the same time, all four wheels were professionally refurbished by Kent specialist Lepsons, and the air-conditioning condenser and coolant pipes were replaced.
The last major service was carried out in March 2018, also by Porsche Centre Tonbridge. It included renewal of the auxiliary drive serpentine belt, along with the spark plugs and brake fluid. Two months earlier, specialist Nine Excellence in Surrey supplied and fitted a new water pump and gasket, and set up the geometry. During its prior service in November 2017, the rear exhaust clamps were replaced.
Its most recent MOT test was on 1 October 2019 at 43,708 miles, which resulted in a pass with only one advisory about wear on both rear tyres. These were subsequently replaced as mentioned above. It now wears a full set of N0-rated Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres in size 235/35 ZR19 at the front and 265/35 ZR19 at the rear. The rear tyres are virtually as-new, while the fronts still have plenty of tread remaining.
Accompanying the car is the original black book pouch, including the driver’s manual and user guides, as well as a duplicate stamped service record. The car is covered by a fully transferable Porsche Approved Warranty Policy until 14 March 2020, which the next owner can then renew if they wish.
This Porsche Cayman (987.1) 2.7 is a superb sports coupe, boasting a terrific engine and a renowned handling balance. The car presents in excellent condition, with low mileage and a good history file that evidences the substantial recent work by Porsche Centre Tonbridge. It is a great opportunity to acquire an impressive Cayman with the indefinitely desirable combination of a naturally-aspirated Porsche flat-six and a slick manual transmission.
