2008 PORSCHE 911 (997) CARRERA 4S CABRIOLET

This Porsche 997 Carrera 4S Cabriolet is a capable and engaging all-season sports car, presented in very good order. Its engine is the 355bhp 3.8-litre naturally aspirated flat-six, with all-wheel drive via a six-speed manual transmission. Presented in an understated specification, this car’s odometer shows 77,847 miles from new.

First registered in September 2008, there are five previous registered keepers on the log book, and the seller has owned this pre-facelift 997 for the past year. Its factory specification includes the desirable Sport Chrono package, PCM infotainment system and the sports exhaust system.

The Arctic Silver exterior presents very well, with only a small number of minor stone chips on the front end. Otherwise, the panels have a smooth and even finish, and there are no unsightly dents or scrapes in the paint. The rear pop-up spoiler also operates correctly.

The black convertible hood appears to be in excellent condition, with no faults in the mechanism, and with a good fit over the frame. The car wears 19-inch SportDesign alloys with optional coloured Porsche crests on the centre caps. One of the crests is missing, but apart from that the wheels are in great shape with no kerbing damage or scuffs.

The black leather interior is in superb order, with only some modest wear on the driver’s seat base and bolsters, and some superficial marks and scratches on the door handles and lower panels. The Porsche Communication Management system is fully functioning, incorporating DVD satellite navigation and optional telephone capabilities by means of a SIM card slot. This 911 also has the optional Bose premium audio system, plus the Sport Chrono lap timer stopwatch on top of the dashboard.

The car most recently underwent a minor service in October 2019 at 75,634 miles. Prior to this, other services in recent years were in March 2019 at 75,444 miles, which included replacement of the spark plugs, and in June 2018 at 74,746 miles. The clutch was renewed in March 2017 at 70,432 miles.

At its last MOT test, in February 2020, the car passed with a handful of minor advisories. A chip was noted in the windscreen, while some corrosion was noted on the rear brake discs and the offside front brake pipe. Slight damage was spotted to the rear under-tray, and the exhaust was found to have a minor leak near the back boxes. There was also a nail in the nearside rear tyre, though this was rectified with a fresh pair of Bridgestones.

While there is no toolkit, the original books for the 997, including the stamped service record with the comprehensive service history inside, are included with the car.

The 997 is steadily gaining greater appreciation among enthusiasts as a landmark 911 in the evolution of the water-cooled generations. This smart and original all-wheel-drive convertible is just as able to keep you secure in winter as it is to get the wind into your hair when the sun is out. Equipped with the desirable manual transmission and some discerning factor options, this is a modern classic that should prove to be an exciting yet reliable purchase for its next owner.
