2008 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 HARD TOP - VAT Q

This Land Rover Defender 90 Hard Top is a smart example of the British classic, presented in an eye-catching specification. Powered by a 2.4-litre TDCi engine producing around 120bhp and 265lb-ft of torque, it has permanent four-wheel drive via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 92,839 miles from new.

First registered in December 2008, the vehicle has three previous keepers on the log book, and the vendor purchased it in December 2016.

The exterior bodywork is in good condition, though there are some minor chips, scratches and dents on the green bodywork. In February 2017, the grilles, bumpers, roof and wheels were repainted in black. Daylight running lights have been added to the front bumper, the headlights upgraded to halogen and new LED marker lights have been fitted. The wheels are 16-inch ‘Sawtooth’ alloys, which are in excellent condition. The black chequer plate panels on the bonnet and the side steps also present well.

The interior is fair for a vehicle of this age and mileage. The seats are in good condition but the interior trim is worn around the battery box on the passenger side, and also under the driver’s seat, though this can be easily rectified thanks to the ready availability of replacement parts. The dash trim centre panel has some holes from the previous fitment of a CB) radio.

The centre Britpart cubby box has two cup holders and the roof lining was completely replaced in December 2016. The rubber lining on the storage compartment is also a new Land Rover part fitted in 2017. The rear window demister is faulty but other than that all of the interior switchgear is in working order.

Recently serviced in September 2020, at 92,839 miles, by Knowl Hill, the vehicle was inspected and lubrication fluids changed. In addition, the front swivel joints were overhauled with a kit that included new seals, and the rear damper bottom rubber bushes were renewed.

Previously, the Defender was serviced in December 2016 at 91,539 miles when the rear differential oil was changed and in October 2014 at 72,117 miles when it received new front brake callipers and pads.

Other maintenance has included a replacement fuel filter in 2019 at 92,468 miles, and a new exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve in 2017 at 91,801 miles. Its gearbox was replaced with a refurbished unit in 2013, and a new rear differential was fitted in 2012.

The most recent MOT test was on 24 September 2020 at 92,839 miles, which resulted in a clean pass. The tyres are from 2016 and have ample tread with 11mm on the front and 10mm on the rear. The spare tyre was fitted in 2017 and has never been used.

The Defender comes with a replacement service book which was supplied when the vendor purchased the vehicle. It includes service and maintenance records covering all work carried out on the vehicle as far back as 2011. Records from some previous MOTs are included, plus invoices for all work carried out throughout the vendor’s ownership.

Overall, this is an attractive Defender with a classic colour scheme that will go wherever you need it to. In good cosmetic condition and mechanically well-maintained, it represents an opportunity to own and drive a timeless British icon that bristles with style and practicality.
