2008 JAGUAR XFR - PRE-PRODUCTION

This 2008 Jaguar XFR is a rare pre-production example of the British ‘super saloon’. Powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, this example shows 113,474 miles on the odometer.

Built on 21 November 2008 and first registered on 26 November 2008, this example is a rare pre-production XFR, as the production car was not released officially until April 2009. The car’s pre-delivery inspection was signed off by the Plant Vehicle Team department at the Castle Bromwich factory in December 2008. Due to being a pre-production vehicle, it is registered in the PLG class, meaning the annual vehicle tax is far lower than that of a standard production XFR (£280 for 12 months, versus £580 for an ordinary XFR).

The vendor has owned the vehicle for the last six months, during which time it has proven to be a reliable and rapid vehicle, blending executive looks with impressive outright pace.

The Liquid Silver paintwork is in excellent overall condition, with the usual smattering of stone chips to the front end and lower bumper that are commensurate with the age and mileage of this XFR. There is a small bubble of corrosion above the offside rear light on the boot lid, though this has not broken through the paint. There are also a few stone chips to the rear end above the exhaust outlet on the offside, and on the lower front bumper above the outer grilles. The 20-inch wheels present well, and the exterior body trims are also in good shape.

In the cabin, the condition of this XFR is impressive, and arguably belies the mileage. There is some wear to the lower driver’s seat cushion, along with small marks on the outer bolster, but no rips or splits in the material or heavy discolouration. The passenger seats in the front and rear are all in very good order, and have clearly seen far less use. The leather top to the dashboard is beginning to wrinkle around the front edge where it meets the windscreen, and the door cards have a few marks from repeated use. Factory-fitted equipment includes electrically adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, sat-nav, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera, Bowers & Wilkins audio, and cruise control. There are no warning lights on the dashboard and no known faults.

The most recent service took place at 113,359 miles during March 2021, and was carried out by 15Twenty Automotive of Great Bentley. This comprised a standard service including oil and filter changes, with OEM parts used throughout. Prior to this, the car was serviced in March 2020 and May 2019 at 108,269 and 101,672 miles respectively, with both services carried out by independent Jaguar specialists. Before the vehicle came into the vendor’s care, a full set of new brake discs and pads were fitted in 2018 at 90,409 miles, and a gearbox oil change was carried out during 2015 at 72,898 miles.

The most recent MOT test took place on 2 March 2021, and resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. All four wheels are shod in matching OEM-spec Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres with a healthy amount of tread left. The vehicle is supplied with all the original dealer handbooks, two keys, service history, Jaguar Heritage certificate and a stack of invoices and other documentation dating back to 2015.

This Jaguar XFR is something of ‘an iron fist in a velvet glove’; perfectly happy to cruise in comfort, but equally capable of making rapid progress with an addictive supercharged V8 soundtrack, should you wish. Presenting in good overall condition and with both strong service history and intriguing provenance, this XFR would make an exciting daily driver, or an unusual addition to any Jaguar collection.
