2008 BENTLEY BROOKLANDS

This Bentley Brooklands is a remarkably rare and splendidly stately high-performance grand tourer, boasting a timeless colour scheme and very low mileage. It is powered by a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V8, producing 530bhp and an immense 774lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic ZF transmission. The odometer shows just 23,700 miles from new.

While Bentley initially intended to make as many as 550 examples of the Brooklands, it is believed that only 426 were built and delivered - comprising 321 left-hand drive cars, and only 105 in right-hand drive like this example. The prodigious power output means it can sprint from 0-60mph in just 5.0 seconds, and on to a top speed of 184mph.

First registered on 1 May 2008, this Brooklands has just two previous keepers on the V5C. The vendor acquired the car around 18 months ago in June 2019, directly from its previous owner – a titled gentleman who played a significant role in securing and delivering the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

Beyond the extensive standard specification, this Bentley was also ordered with the cost options of Diamond Blue Silver paint, a two-tone dashboard top roll, and ultrasonic front and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera. It was also specified with Parchment instrument dials, a single-tone Imperial Blue steering wheel, and diamond-quilted inserts for the seat centres. The cabin is trimmed in Cotswold primary leather and with Imperial Blue secondary hide. There are black composite matrix inserts for the front bumper apertures, Le Mans series lower wing vents, and a dark stainless steel matrix radiator grille.

Today, its bodywork and paint presents in excellent condition, having been well-cared for throughout the car’s life to date. Shortly after acquiring the car, the vendor sent it to Detail Car Care in Wiltshire for some minor refurbishment. Some bubbling in the paint on the nearside quarter panel was rectified and repainted, and some small chipped paint along the nearside door edge was also attended to. The alloy wheels were removed and protected, and the brake hubs were repainted and coated. The whole car was then given a single-stage machine polish.

This Brooklands is fitted with the genuine two-piece 20-inch sport wheels, which are a later addition sourced directly from Bentley. While the offside front alloy would benefit from refurbishment due to two chips in the finish, the other three wheels are in great shape. Other features include the larger diameter exhaust tailpipe finishes with ‘rifled’ detailing inside, and the brushed aluminium '6 ¾ Litre Brooklands' plaque and Bentley logos on the intercoolers.

As you would expect, the interior of the Brooklands is a lavish and beautifully appointed place to sit. The Cotswold primary hide remains in superb condition for its age, showing only modest signs of use on the driver’s seat. Dark walnut burr veneers complement the leather beautifully, while the dashboard top and steering wheel are finished in contrasting Imperial Blue.

Factory-fitted equipment includes dual-zone front and single-zone rear climate control, electrically adjustable and heated front seats with massage function, heated and reclining rear seats, cruise control, and an updated media and satellite navigation system. There are no known faults with any of the electrics, and no warning lights on the dashboard.

Fastidiously maintained from new, this Brooklands was last serviced by Bentley Berkshire in January 2021 at 23,693 miles. This consisted of a full engine oil service, new pollen filters, and a full hydraulic service that included renewal of the brake hoses. Two new fuel pumps were also installed, at a cost of £3,522; the drive belt was replaced; and the offside headlight units were replaced at a cost of £3,562. In total, this major service in January came to just over £12,000.

The scheduled maintenance prior to this was also at Bentley Berkshire, in November 2019 at 23,214 miles, with a full service, new battery and battery breather pipe, two new tyres, replacement of the track rod ends, and a four-wheel alignment session. A full summary of the comprehensive Bentley main dealer and specialist service history is included below.

The most recent MOT test was on 27 November 2020 at 23,645 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. Pirelli P Zero tyres are fitted on all four corners, which remain in excellent condition with nearly full tread remaining.

Accompanying the Bentley is the original stamped service record, as shown in the gallery, plus every maintenance invoice from 2011 onwards. All of the handbooks are also present, plus the original first aid kit, towing tools, work gloves, and spare bulbs.

While the Brooklands is a consummate long-distance grand tourer, it is also great fun to drive. Reporting from the launch for Evo magazine, motoring writer David Vivian concluded: “Once you’re in the groove on the right road, it’s an absolute riot to hustle. And, not to put too fine a point on it, a wonder of the world.”

This Bentley Brooklands is a remarkable luxury car, which boasts prodigious performance as well as impeccable road manners and refinement. With just 105 understood to have been built in right-hand drive, this is also an exceptionally rare coupe, which would make a superb addition to any collection of prestigious vehicles. It is ready to drive and enjoy, and is sure to delight its next owner with bags of road presence and a timelessly handsome aesthetic.
