2008 AMERICAN IRONHORSE BANDERA SOFTAIL

This American IronHorse Bandera Softail is a stunning ‘pro street’ style custom cruiser, and one of the very last models to be built by the popular US manufacturer before it closed its doors in 2008. Its engine is the 1820cc (111ci) V-twin four-stroke engine by S&S Cycle, coupled to a six-speed transmission. The odometer indicates just 220 miles.

The Bandera features flame-effect styling throughout, with the motif applied to the polished wheel design, the brake discs, and the callipers. Its specification includes single disc front and rear brakes with four-piston polished callipers, while the engine is capped by Super Stock cylinder heads.

Completed in September 2008, it was evidently left unregistered for three years, and was shipped from the US to the UK where it was first registered in May 2011. There is one previous keeper on the V5C, and it was acquired by The Brunt Collection in January 2013.

Its frame and bodywork remain in outstanding condition, with no accident damage or dents. The custom Candy Apple metallic paintwork is also superb, with a chequered flag fade design across the tank as well as the front and rear mudguards. There is a liberal use of chrome and polished metal throughout, including billet 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, and the 2-into-1 exhaust system. Its leather seat upholstery is finished with a smart hexagonal quilted stitch pattern.

The last scheduled specialist maintenance was carried out in December 2016 at Snob’s Ultimate Customs. The was an engine oil and filter service, with fresh spark plugs, a new battery, and tuning of the carburettors. In a note to the owner, Snob’s also recommended some revisions to the original specification for improved usability, including a switch to a dual or higher-capacity battery unit, which the next owner could investigate.

The most recent MOT test was on 10 March 2021 at 219 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with only two advisories; one stating that the exhaust is somewhat noisy, and the second regarding a slightly discoloured rear indicator lens. Its wheels are shod in Metzeler tyres.

This American IronHorse Bandera is a smooth-riding slice of modern US motorcycle culture, and was built by one of the largest custom manufacturers of its day. With its robust and characterful S&S V-twin, this softail cruiser is great fun on the road, while its raft of bespoke features will make it an eye-catching addition to any collection.
