2007 PORSCHE 911 (997) GT3 CLUBSPORT - 168,640 MILES

This 997.1 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Clubsport is a handsome and much-enjoyed example of the thrilling sports car, which is reported to be in excellent mechanical order. It is powered by the incredible 3.6-litre M97.76 flat-six, producing up to 409bhp, and driving the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. A testament to the car’s usability and reliability, this GT3’s odometer displays 168,640 miles from new.

Created with fast road and track use in mind, this right-hand drive 911 GT3 was specified with the optional Clubsport package and is fitted with lightweight composite bucket seats, satin grey 19-inch GT3 alloy wheels and PCCB carbon-ceramic brakes.

An original UK-market car, it was first registered on 28 September 2007 and its log book shows six prior registered keepers. One of these enjoyed taking it on long excursions across legendary driving roads in Europe, which accounts for the unapologetic ‘used as intended’ mileage.

The seller acquired the car just under two years ago and has used it to bring some enjoyment to his long commutes, as well as the odd A-road blast, and has kept up the fastidious maintenance.

Today, the bodywork presents well, and is believed to retain its original panels. The vendor describes the Basalt Black paint as being in fair condition, but considering the age and mileage, it is in mostly good order. There are some stone chips on the front bonnet and bumper, and some wear and scuffs on the plastic front chin spoiler. Small scuffs are also visible on the nearside front and offside rear bumper sections.

The previous owner said that he did one track day in the car but had an excursion onto a gravel run-off, and there is a resultant area of gravel-rash on the wing in front of the driver’s door and nearside front wheel which can both be seen in the photo gallery. The car rides on its original 19-inch alloy wheels, which have some minor marks to their surfaces but are otherwise in good condition.

Inside, this GT3 Clubsport makes its motorsport-oriented intentions clear. Clad in Nomex, the composite bucket seats are in good order, although the covering has worn away slightly on the driver’s right-hand bolster, exposing the foam padding beneath. This has a protector pad fitted to ensure it does not wear further. In the rear, a black half cage provides additional rigidity and enhanced safety. Standard seat belts remain fitted, reflecting the fact that the vast majority of the mileage has been accrued in use as a fast road car, rather than on the track.

Elsewhere, the interior is trimmed in black leather for the dashboard top and door caps, and Alcantara for the door inner panels, gear knob, handbrake lever, and steering wheel. All of the interior electrical items, buttons and switches are reported to work without fault, save for the clock, which is temperamental.

This 997 GT3 Clubsport has been enjoyed as intended and has been kept in strong mechanical condition, with the current owner stating that is has arguably been ‘over-serviced’ during its life to date. Its last routine maintenance was carried out by Porsche specialist Fearnsport in July 2020. As well as a general oil service and inspection, this also included a brake fluid change, replacement of the exhaust vacuum line and inspection of the limited slip differential, which was fitted with uprated Belleville washers before being refilled with fresh oil.

The oil scavenge line and scavenge pump were also refitted with new O-rings and a leak-down test was carried out to assess the engine’s condition, with all six cylinders in excellent health, showing readings of less than 2.25%.

Prior to this, the car received an oil service in December 2019 at 165,945 miles, which was carried out by Stoneley’s garage, Mansfield, and a major service in September 2018 at 154,272 miles, when Fearnsport replaced the engine oil, gearbox oil, brake fluid, coolant and coil packs.

The car’s prior keeper fitted a used set of KW springs and dampers for track use, but the current owner replaced these with the car’s original PASM suspension setup, with the dampers having been serviced by Bilstein, while new springs were fitted to the rear. The ride height was then returned to standard and the geometry was adjusted for fast road use by specialist Center Gravity. Having tested the setup at Oulton Park’s RS track day – the only such event he has participated in – the seller states that the car’s handling has been transformed. Included with the car is a pair of silenced exhaust tips which are easy to install to reduce the sound levels for track days.

This 911 is reported to be in excellent running order today, with the only note from the vendor being that the gearbox can feel slightly notchy for up to around 10 minutes after the car is started on a cold winter’s day. Technicians at Fearnsport, who have checked this for the owner, report that this is very normal for the 997. It is now back in its factory specification, save for a Sharkwerks rear silencer and the uprated Fearnsport limited-slip differential.

This thrilling 911’s most recent MOT test was conducted on 21 July 2020 at 167,715 miles, when it secured a first-time pass without a single advisory note, which is a testament to its current owner’s fastidious approach to maintenance.

The wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres, with 235/35 ZR19 items on the front (6.5mm tread depth) and 305/30 ZR19 at the rear (5mm tread depth). All four were replaced in September 2018 and are in good order, although the seller notes that there is a small nick in the sidewall of the offside rear tyre.

Accompanying the car is a fully stamped service book per the summary below, and every invoice provided to the current and previous owner.

Surely one of the world’s most-enjoyed GT3s, this Porsche 911 (997) GT3 Clubsport is in excellent mechanical order, owing to its previous owners’ dedication to frequent servicing and maintenance. This is a GT3 that deserves to continue being enjoyed on the road or at the track, and is ready for many more miles. It represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a highly accomplished performance car, and is offered with a very sensible reserve.
