2007 MERCEDES-BENZ SL500

This 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL500 is a modern classic drop-top cruiser, presented in very good condition throughout and supported by a main dealer and specialist maintenance history. Under the bonnet sits a 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, producing 383bhp and 391lb-ft of torque, coupled with a seven-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 77,220 miles from new.

First registered in April 2007, this SL500 has six previous keepers on the log book, and was acquired by its current owner within the last few months. This generation of SL was the first to feature a retractable hardtop roof, as well as the marque’s Active Body Control system, which uses hydraulics to adjust the damping and maintain a level ride.

The bodywork of this SL500 presents in good order, with no sign of any previous damage. The condition of the black paintwork is described as good overall, with some small stone chips on the front bumper, and with a respray of the rear bumper after a GB sticker was removed and pulled the paint. The badging, headlight lenses and wing vents present well, while the hardtop roof is stull fully operational and remains free of any discolouration or chips to the finish. The car rides on a set of 19-inch five-spoke AMG alloy wheels, which are in good condition.

Moving inside, this SL500 is trimmed with beige leather upholstery, which covers the seats, door cards, rear quarters and lower section of the dashboard. The seats appear with some age-related creasing to the bolsters – more so on the driver’s side as you would expect – but with no heavy wear. The steering wheel and automatic gear selector show modest wear commensurate with the age and mileage, while the black ash wood trim on the centre console and door panels is in good order. All of the electrics work as they should, and the only interior fault noted is that one of the retaining clips for the fabric mesh screen below the glass roof is missing, so it cannot be secured in place, but still operates.

The last service was in April 2020 at 74,247 miles, where technicians at Mike Grainger Autos in London changed the engine oil and filter, before fixing an issue with the boot lock. Prior to this, routine maintenance was carried out in April 2019 at 71,713 miles at the same workshop; and in March 2018 at 66,436 miles by AMC, another London-based independent specialist.

The most recent MOT test was on 28 April 2020 at 74,246 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The wheels come wrapped with Pirelli P Zero tyres all round. These were fitted between 2017 and 2018, and all have 5mm-6mm of tread remaining.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s manual, SL instruction booklet and other Mercedes-Benz literature, along with various receipts for maintenance work carried out and MOT certificates dating back to 2014.
