2007 JAVAN R1

This Javan R1 represents a great opportunity to acquire an exclusive hand-built British sports car. Powered by a high-revving Honda K20A 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine, developing around 220bhp, which is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, this 670kg track-focused pocket rocket can sprint from rest to 62mph in just 3.6 seconds. The odometer shows 1,075 miles.

Chassis number 006 was first registered on 5 November 2007, and was retained by its first owner in controlled storage conditions for nine years. It was re-acquired by the founder of the business, Javan Smith, in June 2016.

This thrilling two-seater is painted in British Racing Green, which presents well. There are minor stone chips to the front clamshell as well as one adjacent to the nearside headlight, and some small scratches to the lower edge of the front splitter. As you would expect from a car that has been used so sparingly, the aluminium honeycomb chassis and the body components are in excellent condition. It rides on Team Dynamics Motorsport alloy wheels, with a staggered setup of 16-inch at the front and 17-inch rear, which are in superb order.

The race-inspired interior shows only minor signs of use, with the green Alcantara seat pads still in excellent condition. The steering wheel and switchgear also reflect the very low mileage and remain in superb order. There are no reported faults with the controls, and no warning lights illuminated.

The last scheduled maintenance was a full engine consumables service – replacing the oil, filter and spark plugs among other things – and a general inspection by performance specialist Rally Prep in Cornwall, when the odometer stood at 1,050 miles. The car has covered just 25 miles since then.

Currently SORN, the last MOT test was on 14 July 2017 at 985 miles with no advisories; however, it will come with a fresh 12-month MOT certificate for the next owner. The Pirelli P Zero tyres have only recently been fitted, and are said to be in as-new condition.

The only modification, completed by Javan himself, is that the exhaust tips now emerge below rather than through the rear clamshell. The vendor states that this is a minor adaptation that can easily be reversed in the future if desired.

As the car is offered directly from Javan Smith’s personal collection, other assets from the low-volume manufacturer are available by separate negotiation should the winning bidder be interested in acquiring the production moulds and rights, or other components.

With a limited production run between 2006 and 2010 the Javan R1 found buyers in the UK, North America and Asia. Today, this compact mid-engined and track-focused sports car is an incredibly rare sight. With exhilarating performance offered by its rev-happy Honda engine and a slick manual gearbox, this lightweight analogue roadster should prove to be a great value road car or track day toy for thrill-seeking drivers.
