2007 FORD MUSTANG - SHELBY GT500 SUPER SNAKE RECREATION

This 2006 Ford Mustang is a superb homage to the Shelby GT500 Super Snake, which is presented in excellent condition and with remarkably low mileage. Under the bonnet sits a 4.6-litre V8, modified with a dealership-fitted supercharger to produce up to 450hp, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission and a Roush billet short-shift linkage. The odometer currently indicates just 12,534 miles from new.

A 2007 model year car, this Mustang was delivered new to a dealer in Florida, US in September 2006. It was held in stock for just two months before being sold and exported to Guernsey with just 445 miles on the odometer. It was subsequently upgraded to its attention-grabbing specification with an £80,000 build process.

It has remained registered in Guernsey until very recently, when it was acquired by the current owner. Throughout its life, it has participated in various press and promotional work, including on the Top Gear Tour events, and at the Knightcon movie car gathering. A new registration application has been submitted to the DVLA, so the vendor is awaiting a V5C document in the post.

The bodywork has been enhanced with a full Super Snake body kit, as well as the sought-after genuine 20-inch Shelby forged 20-inch wheels. There are front brake cooling ducts, carbon-fibre wing mirror caps, and carbon-fibre sill and front splitter covers. To the best of the vendor’s knowledge, the car has never sustained any damage to its bodywork, and presents with flush shut lines and smooth panels.

Its black paintwork presents in excellent condition, certainly benefitting from sparing use and careful storage, though there are some minor blemishes, such as some micro-blistering on the bonnet and cracked paint on the passenger-side front bumper. The lacquer on the front splitter has also gone slightly cloudy. The car’s suspension has been upgraded to Ford Racing SVT specification, with Ford Racing anti-roll bars and a strut brace, as well as a Roush billet anti-roll bar upgrade kit. The genuine Shelby SVT forged wheels are in generally very good order, with only minor grazes in a few places.

Moving inside, the vehicle is trimmed with a combination of black and cream leather upholstery, which presents in excellent condition throughout. The seats feature the Super Snake logo embossed on the headrests, and have only minimal wear on the bases and bolsters. The cream leather-clad door cards and lower dashboard are in good condition, and the metal trim on the upper dashboard is signed by Michael Scheffe, who designed the original KITT from Knight Rider, when this car was part of Knightcon.

The dashboard features a Shelby instrument gauge pod, including the rear armrest boost gauges. There is also the Shaker sound system with the boot-sited amplifier and bass box. There are two small holes on the passenger side of the dashboard, which are likely to be from a previous accessory mount. All of the dashboard switches are reported to work as they should, with no electrical gremlins. The vendor notes a false tyre pressure warning light is known to appear, though this is due to the fitment of aftermarket wheels.

The car’s main mechanical modification is the Roush supercharger, which features an uprated drop pulley and induction kit. There are five engine maps available to choose from, with the maximum running to approximately 450hp.

The last service was undertaken at 11,500 miles in September 2020, where the vendor notes the engine oil, filter and spark plugs were changed. The wheels come wrapped in Continental tyres all round. The vendor reports the front tyres are brand new, while the rears have 5mm of tread remaining.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original handbook, a GT500 service book with two stamps, and a selection of maintenance invoices and other documents.

This Ford Mustang is an eye-catching tribute to the mighty Shelby GT500 Super Snake, benefiting from a substantial power upgrade, and boasting some genuine Shelby components. It has been used sparingly over the last 14 years, but is reported to be huge fun to drive, with the addictive supercharger whine under load and a short-shifting manual transmission delivering analogue thrills. This would be a great addition to a collection of modified or muscle cars, and is sure to put a big smile on the next owner’s face.
