This BMW M5 Touring is a well-maintained example of the German marque’s thrilling ‘super estate’. Under the bonnet is a howling 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V10, producing 500bhp and 384lb-ft of torque, mated to a seven-speed SMG automated manual transmission with paddle shift. The odometer reads 81,600 miles.

First registered on 7 June 2007, this UK-market M5 has been owned by the current vendor for the past four years, with five owners in total. The vendor believes that this is one of only around 220 examples of the M5 Touring imported to the UK, with this car benefiting from a comprehensive factory specification.

In the handsome Space Grey Metallic hue, the M5’s paint finish is smooth and glossy throughout. The front bumper shows some stone chips, with a smart repair carried out in June 2018 to rejuvenate the lacquer and touch in some stone chips. A very minor mark is visible on the driver’s door from another car opening their door onto the M5 in a car park. It rides on the original BMW ‘Style 167’ five-arm alloy wheels, which are in excellent order with no kerbing damage.

Its bonnet and offside headlight were replaced with genuine BMW items in March 2019, after they were grazed by a gate being transported on a pick-up truck. While both items were repairable, the owner insisted on replacement, with the bonnet sprayed to match at Barons BMW bodyshop in Hindhead – and with a lifetime repair warranty. The whole car subsequently received a full cut and polish to ensure a uniform level of gloss around all of the panels.

The M5’s interior features a great colour scheme, and an extensive equipment list. The Silverstone Merino leather remains in very good condition with no rips or other damage to the upholstery, and only modest signs of use commensurate with the mileage. There is some visible wear on the driver’s seat outer bolsters as you would expect, and a very small patch of discolouration on the front passenger seat. The steering wheel and gear lever also show some wear, but the dashboard remains in very good condition.

All electric functions, including the panoramic sunroof, adaptive headlights, heated memory seats, cruise control, climate control, front and rear parking sensors, and BMW Professional media system are in full working order. The car also has a genuine factory-fitted detachable tow bar with full 13-pin electrics, which was still unused when the owner purchased the car, and which has since only been used twice to tow a light trailer to a recycling centre.

The most recent service was carried out in May 2017 at 76,353 miles by BMW specialist Barkers Motor Works of Haslemere. This entailed an oil service, brake fluid change and replacement of the pollen filter.

During the vendor’s ownership, the clutch and dual mass flywheel have also been replaced – at 73,476 miles – while the differential seals, fuel sender and filter, fuel injectors, boot lid pump, sunroof seal, intake couplers and front springs have also been renewed. The rear brake callipers have been rebuilt, while the oil cooler has been reinforced and the exterior badges replaced.

The most recent MOT test was on 10 December 2020 at 81,516 miles. This was a first-time pass with only one advisory for a relatively shallow cut in the offside rear tyre. The wheels are shod in matching Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, which were fitted in December 2016, and which have approximately 3mm remaining on the front axle and 2.5mm on the rears.

The vendor notes that there is a very minor leak from the front oil seal on the differential. The seal has been replaced, but a small amount of fluid does still escape due to slight wear on the input shaft. The tailgate gas strut pressure is also slightly low, though this is only noticeable if the car is parked on an uphill slope.

Offering impressive practicality, an incredible soundtrack from its shrieking V10, and sophisticated dynamics, this BMW M5 Touring is a tempting high-performance model. While the V10 engine’s reputation precedes it, this has proven to be as reliable as it is exciting during the vendor’s ownership, and it is now ready to continue in faithful service with another enthusiast owner.
