2007 BMW ALPINA (E91) D3 TOURING

This BMW Alpina D3 Touring is a well-maintained and usable example of the performance-focused estate, which remains in good order. Powered by an upgraded 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four diesel engine coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, this example has covered an indicated 127,263 miles.

Based upon the E91 320d Touring, the Alpina D3 introduces a larger Garret turbocharger, new intercooler, bigger injectors and a remapped ECU to raise the power output to 200hp, and with 410Nm of torque – with the latter eclipsing the M3 of the era. In addition, the interior and the exterior have received numerous Alpina-specific touches.

First registered on 24 April 2007, this D3 Touring has been in the care of the vendor for the last two years and represents their second foray into Alpina ownership. During this time, the front bumper has been repainted and the car has been regularly serviced. Of note to Alpina aficionados is the fact that this D3 was first registered in Scotland, hence the ‘NT’ prefix to the number plate, rather than the ‘FJ’ common to most other UK-delivered vehicles.

The car’s bodywork presents well, with no known significant prior damage. The vendor notes that their partner previously caught the front bumper on her own car, which necessitated the repair and respray of this panel, but otherwise the finish is thought to be original. Today, the car has some stone chips around the vulnerable areas, a patch of lacquer peel on the offside rear arch, and small area of bubbling on the offside front wheel arch. The 19-inch multi-spoke wheels are in excellent condition having been refurbished during December 2020. The vendor is uncertain whether the Alpina ‘Deco Set’ graphics were applied at the factory, or whether they were applied by a previous owner.

The interior of this D3 Touring is in very good order for its age. The usual wear is present on the front seat bolsters - in particular on the driver’s side - though this could be improved be a re-connolising treatment. The original Alpina floor mats are still with the car, and while the driver’s mat has been worn through on the heel pad, the other three mats are still in good condition. There are some minor marks on the door sills and lower door cards, though these are commensurate with the age and mileage. The standard stereo has been upgraded to a double-DIN Sony unit with smartphone connectivity, and the vendor reports that all systems, electronics and switches work exactly as they should.

The most recent service took place in March 2021 at 127,267 miles, so the car is fresh from maintenance and ready to enjoy. Prior to this, it was serviced in January 2020 at 122,488 miles, performed by Woodman Garage of Swinton, comprising of a full service with oil and filter change. Prior to 2020, the car was serviced in June 2017 at Strutherhill Autos of Larkhill and during June 2016 by AA Motors.

The 2017 service was a major service, including oil and filter changes, microfilter change, diesel fuel filter change, new front and rear brakes, and a new air cleaner element. In addition to servicing, the vehicle has also received a new genuine BMW nearside front coil spring, nearside front suspension arm and two new genuine BMW rear shock absorbers.

The most recent MOT took place on 11 November 2020, and resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. All four tyres are in great condition with plenty of tread, with the front pair being from October 2020 and the rears are around 18 months old. The vendor notes that the locking wheel nuts rattle slightly due to having lost the plastic cap that holds them down, however, this is only noticeable with the windows down.

Supplied with the vehicle are the original Alpina handbooks, manuals and documentation, numerous invoices, two keys, and a stamped service record. The vendor notes that the original stereo will be included in the sale if the purchaser wants.

Combining the incredible practicality of the BMW E91 3 Series Touring platform with improved performance and enhanced styling courtesy of Alpina, this D3 offers a fantastic blend of everyday usability and engaging driving characteristics. Presenting in great condition throughout and with a solid service history, this Alpina D3 would make an excellent daily driver for any enthusiast.
