2006 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF (MK5) R32

This VW Golf R32 is an original example of the Wolfsburg marque’s flagship Mk5-generation hot hatch. Under the bonnet resides a 3.2-litre VR6 six-cylinder engine producing 247bhp and 236lb-ft of torque, driving all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer reads 85,743 miles from new.

First registered on 24 March 2006, this R32 is a UK-market example and remains unmodified. It has been in the hands of the current vendor for the past year and has a good service history. The car has been garaged for the past 14 months with very occasional use.

The Black Magic Pearl finish is largely original to the car, save for the nearside front wing which has been repaired due to corrosion and subsequently resprayed., One small light mark can be found on the rear bumper at the tailgate.

Inside, the Golf’s robust interior has held up well over the past 15 years. The black leather seats are slightly worn on the outer bolsters of both front seats, but are free of any rips to the upholstery. The rear seats are in similarly good condition with very little wear. Signs of wear are visible on the electric window switches on the driver’s door, as well as on the steering wheel and gear knob, which display a patina in line with the age of the car.

The vendor reports that everything remains in full working order, with no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. An aftermarket head unit with navigation, Bluetooth and DVD playback has been installed, with the vendor adding that the original VW RCD 300 unit will be included in the sale. The toolkit is complete along with the space saver spare wheel. The leather-bound R32 owner’s manual including service logbook is complete along with a separate folder documenting historical MOT tests, servicing and replacement parts.

The most recent service was carried out at 85,524 miles by Station Garage of Hassocks. This was a minor service comprising of replacement of the engine oil and both oil and air filters. Prior to this, an engine oil service was undertaken at 81,338 miles, while a major service was recorded at 72,840 miles. This included the all-important Haldex four-wheel drive system service and the installation of a centre engine mount polybush.

The most recent MOT test was on 23 February 2021. This was a pass with an advisory noted for the condition of the nearside rear tyre.

This VW Golf R32 presents in good order, backed up by solid maintenance history, and would make for an entertaining daily driver in all weathers, or perhaps a modern classic to keep preserved for warm weekend drives.
