Fun and engaging with a lot to offer its next owner, this Porsche 911 (997) Carrera 2 is one of the all-time great ‘everyday’ sports cars. It is powered by a 3.6-litre flat-six engine producing 321bhp, which is paired with the involving six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 97,422 miles from new.

Since being first registered in September 2006, the vehicle has had six previous keepers over the last fourteen years. It has belonged to the current vendor for the past six months.

The exterior is finished in Arctic Silver and is in a good condition for a car of this age with only some very minor stone chips present. Paintwork is believed to be original throughout, and the 18-inch alloys are in good order, with only small chips on the rear wheels and slight deterioration of the coloured Porsche crest centre caps.

The interior is also original, and its condition arguably belies the mileage. The owner reports very minor wear on the driver’s outer bolster and around the footwell, and there are a few small marks on the other interior trim in places. Overall though, it is evidently in great shape. It is equipped with the desirable sport seats that feature additional shoulder support, a body-colour transmission tunnel trim, and the PCM media system with satellite navigation.

The car was specified without a sunroof, and has the leather trim extending across the dashboard and door caps. All of the interior switchgear and electrics are reported to work as they should, including the Bose sound system – though some of the buttons and knobs are slightly worn on the surfaces.

The vehicle’s most recent service was in May 2020 at 97,164 miles by Paragon Porsche. An oil and filter change was carried out, and the particulate filter was also renewed. The suspension was then given an overhaul, with new trailing arms, front wishbones, front drop links and new stabiliser bar bushes. The rear caliper brake pipes were replaced and the wheels were treated to a full laser geometry alignment. Four new tyres were also fitted.

At the previous service undertaken at Porsche Reading in January 2018 at 89,515 miles, the vehicle underwent a brake fluid change, new spark plugs and has a replacement auxiliary belt. Prior to that, a minor service was undertaken at Porsche Reading in February 2014 at 70,639 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on 22 May 2020 at 97,164 miles, which resulted in a pass with some advisories, including worn tyres that have since been replaced. Some damage to the front windscreen was reported, but it is not affecting the driver’s view.

All of the original books are present including the stamped guarantee and maintenance record, the driver’s manual, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) guide, sat-nav DVD disc and booklet, and the quick reference guide. The original tools, towing eye, tyre inflator and warning triangle are also present.

This Porsche 997 Carrera 2 is a capable and exciting sports car, presented in very good condition, fresh from recent and extensive maintenance. Arguably a ‘purist’ specification with its rear-wheel drive layout, manual transmission, and without such frills as a sunroof, this is a great driver’s car in a classic colour scheme. For a first-time Porsche buyer or someone seeking to relive the analogue experience of a 997 Carrera, this could be the perfect companion on their favourite roads.

All UK-registered cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. This vehicle shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.

Please note: the cherished plate shown on the car is not included in the sale. It will be switched back to an age-related registration plate in the event of a successful auction.
