This Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works GP – car number 1662 in the 2000-piece global limited run and one of just 437 believed to be in the UK – is in stunning original condition with a mere 21,365 miles on the odometer. Its 1.6-litre supercharged engine sends 215bhp through the six-speed manual gearbox to the front wheels via a mechanical limited-slip differential.

The JCW GP sits at the very top of the BMW Mini hot hatch hierarchy, with the most extreme performance and aggressive specification of its generation, as well as a host of unique exterior and interior touches. Now that the third-generation flagship has just landed, this series-one (R53) model could be your ideal entry point into an acclaimed line of real-world performance cars that is receiving renewed attention.

GP number 1662 was first registered in September 2006 and has had five previous registered keepers. Having covered just over 21,000 miles in the last 14 years, this remains a superb example, which the current owner has enjoyed and maintained for four years.

The exterior presents superbly, with all the unique styling and aerodynamic details intact, and with the Thunder Blue metallic paint being in excellent condition. The seller notes a small mark on the windscreen on the passenger’s side, while there is also a minor chip on the plastic lower grille surround on the same side. The GP-specific four-spoke wheels are in excellent condition all around, shod in tyres described as each having at least 50% of their original tread.

The interior condition and originality matches that of the exterior. While the right-hand bolsters on the leather Recaro driver’s seat are slightly creased from light use, the material itself otherwise has no damage at all. The plastic trims on the doors and dashboard are unmarked and show no visible wear. The same goes for the dark grey carpet and headlining, as well as the rear chassis brace that spans the boot area in place of deleted rear seats.

The car was last serviced in August 2019 by BMW Mini Crawley, at 21,346 miles, where it received a detailed Inspection II service along with new brake fluid and wiper blades. It has been serviced by dealers and marque specialists throughout its life. The car’s last MOT was in August 2019 at 21,332 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories, but the seller says it will also have a new test done before the handover. Accompanying the car is the original book pack, including the owner’s manual and stamped service record, plus MOT certificates, service invoices and even some magazine articles about the JCW GP.

This Mini Cooper S JCW GP is a superb example of a hot hatch that has quickly reached ‘modern classic’ status. Presented in fine mechanical and cosmetic condition, it also boasts very low mileage. This Mini is a rare and lauded driver’s car with eminently usable performance, ready to be driven with gusto and delivering a riotous experience on any B-road or track day.
