2006 MINI COOPER S CONVERTIBLE - JCW TUNING KIT

This 2006 Mini Cooper S is a superb low-mileage and unmodified example of the marque’s convertible hot hatch, which features an original factory-fitted JCW tuning kit and presents in excellent condition throughout. Under the bonnet sits the 210hp 1.6-litre inline-four engine, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 35,800 miles from new, though this may rise slightly during the auction as the car is still in use.

First registered in September 2006, this Mini Cooper has been in the hands of its current keeper for three years. It features a factory-fitted John Cooper Works tuning kit, which includes a machined cylinder head, an updated ECU, a cat-back sport exhaust system, an improved-flow air filter, a cover injection tube and a JCW bodykit and badging. Inside, this Mini features the desirable JCW shift lights, a carbon-fibre gear knob, illuminated JCW kick plates, a Harmon Kardon sound system, and other notable factory-fit options.

The bodywork is all in good shape, and its black paintwork presents very well. The vendor notes that the sills and both bumpers have been resprayed, while the 18-inch ‘R95’ alloy wheels have been repainted black. Some light stone chips and scuffs can be seen on the car’s lower panels, most notably around the front end and wheel arches, though the finish is smart overall. The soft-top roof appears to be in good working order and presents with the usual cosmetic cracks to the rubber seals and plastic guttering, while the black alloys present with some age-related markings and road rash.

Inside, the cabin still features its original black leather upholstery, though it has been fitted with replacement OEM floor mats, seat backs and other trim pieces. The vendor reports that the front seat covers are sagging slightly, which is very common in Minis of this age, while there are a couple of light marks and general creasing to the rest of the leather, commensurate with the mileage. The three-spoke steering wheel and carbon-fibre JCW gear knob are free of any notable scuffs, though some light marks can be seen on the black plastic switchgear and central navigation screen.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in April 2020 at 34,824 miles, where technicians at BMW/Mini specialist BMS Surrey fitted a new clutch kit, rear main oil seal, guide sleeve and flywheel bolts, before fitting new Powerflex bushes to the front lower arm and cleaning the rear brake callipers and carriers. The engine oil and filters were also changed. Prior to this, in April 2018 at 26,905 miles, the engine oil, filters, spark plugs, brake fluid, sump gasket and drive belt were replaced as part of an Inspection II service.

The most recent MOT test was on 14 October 2020 at 35,433 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects, though the vendor reports the battery may need replacing due to lack of recent use. The Nexen tyres are reported to be in good condition, with plenty of tread remaining.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original JCW certificate and brochure, along with the full vehicle book pack and a raft of maintenance invoices. The appropriate registration ‘MR52 JCW’ is also included in the sale, as is the desirable JCW certificate that confirms the factory specification.
