2006 MERCEDES-BENZ SL500

This Mercedes-Benz SL500 is an excellent example of the modern classic convertible cruiser, presented in fantastic unmodified condition and with low mileage. Beneath its sweeping bonnet lies the 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, which sends 383bhp and 391lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission. The odometer displays just 36,386 miles from new.

First registered on 20 October 2006, this R230-generation SL500 was acquired by the seller around four-and-a-half years ago, and has been stored in a dry garage and maintained to a very high standard since.

It is assumed that the bodywork has never suffered from any prior damage, and every panel is smooth and free of any dents, and the shut lines are consistent around the car. Believed to be completely original, the Iridium Silver paintwork is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition, and features few if any blemishes, owing to this SL’s low mileage and sparing use.

The exterior trim, light lenses and glass all present well, while the electrically-operated ‘vario-roof’ works without fault and retracts in an impressive 16 seconds. This stylish roadster rides on a set of 19-inch five-spoke AMG alloy wheels, which are in great shape.

In the cabin, this SL500 is upholstered in very smart black leather, which covers the seats, door cards, upper dashboard and the central arm rest. Both of the heated, electrically adjustable seats are in very good order, and there are only a few light creases on their surfaces. Glossy wood trim adds an extra touch of sophistication, and features on the door cards, the centre console and the upper and lower portions of the steering wheel.

Overall, this SL500’s interior is in excellent condition, with very few marks or signs of use; however, there are some scratches on the infotainment system screen, as shown in the gallery.

Factory-fitted equipment includes a premium Bose sound system, climate control, and an infotainment system with phone connectivity. The seller reports that there are no faults with any of the car’s switches, controls or other electrics, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Described by the vendor as now driving like new, this modern classic is in excellent mechanical condition. Most recently, it was recommissioned in January 2021 at 36,350 miles by Mercedes-Benz specialist Richard Hollings Auto Services. This included the repair of an oil leak from the rear of the cylinder head and replacement of the rear numberplate bulb.

Prior to this, an annual oil service was carried out in December 2019 at 31,492 miles by Merx Independent Mercedes, which also serviced the car in July 2018 at 20,540 miles, when the pollen filter was also changed.

This SL500’s last MOT test was conducted on 10 February 2021 at 36,386 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with one advisory for slight play in the nearside front wheel bearing, which the vendor notes will be rectified prior to the car’s handover to its next owner. All four wheels are fitted with Accelera tyres, which are said to be in good condition.
