2006 MERCEDES-BENZ CLS 63 AMG

This Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG is an excellent example of the high-performance four-door coupe, presented in a timeless black-on-black specification, and benefitting from comprehensive annual main dealer service history. Under the bonnet is the legendary 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8, producing 514bhp and 465lb-ft of torque, coupled to the seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift.

First registered on 6 November 2006 - and technically a 2007 model year car - this CLS 63 has four previous keepers on the log book, and was acquired by its current owner in June 2020. The odometer shows 88,280 miles. A serial AMG owner, he is only selling as he needs to go back to having the extra space of an AMG estate car.

A high-specification car, it was equipped with nearly £10,000 worth of optional extras from the factory. These include an electric glass sunroof, upgraded wheels, Distronic radar-assisted cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors. The car also has the COMAND media system, keyless go, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, anthracite Alcantara headlining, and an electric rear roller blind. In-car technology includes the Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround-sound system, remote boot closing, Linguatronic voice control, CD changer, the garage door opener, tyre pressure monitoring, and telephone pre-wiring.

Its bodywork is described as being in very good condition, with no evidence of panel damage, and no scrapes or obvious dents. Likewise, the Obsidian Black paint finish presents very well, with the vendor noting some usual stone chips from road use, but no signs of abuse. All of the body trims and badges remain in place, and the car is entirely original and unmodified. It rides on the five-spoke AMG alloys, which have no kerbing damage whatsoever, and only a couple of minor lacquer blemishes.

Stepping inside, the interior is described as being in excellent condition throughout, with the black Exclusive leather still in great shape. There are only modest signs of use, and no rips or other damage to the leather itself. With heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and four-zone climate control, the CLS 63 makes a great long-distance family tourer, so all occupants can get their settings just right. The wood inlays are in superb order, and all of the switchgear works as it should. There are no warning lights on the dashboard.

Annually serviced from new, the most recent scheduled maintenance was carried out in June 2020 at 83,355 miles by Mercedes-Benz Sheffield. Work carried out this year has included fitting a new alternator, a replacement front air suspension unit, new xenon control module, a window regulator, and a rear parking sensor component. The air-conditioning has also been recharged, and the brake pipes renewed.

In 2019, another window regulator was replaced, the full set of spark plugs were renewed, and new rear Mercedes-Benz ‘MO’ marked Yokohama tyres were fitted at 78,899 miles. A comprehensive list of all main dealers services is below, and all but the last three are also stamped in the maintenance record – and only because the book is full. However, invoices in the file evidence the work.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 3 December 2020 at 88,286 miles, which resulted in the car passing at the first attempt with no advisories or defects noted. The rear tyres have covered around 10,000 miles but are still in good order, while the front tyres were replaced in 2020 at 83,773 miles.

Accompanying the car are all of the original books and user guides, as well as the stamped service record, an excellent file of paperwork, and two keys.

At launch, CAR magazine said of the CLS 63: “The engine is superbly refined, it's practically inaudible until you really hoof it. At which point it awakens and delivers an aural masterpiece - a mix of huge induction noise, overlaid by the V8 throb which gets increasingly aggressive as the redline approaches. Brilliant.”
