2006 BMW (E60) M5

This 2006 BMW M5 is fine example of the E60 variant, which has gone down as both a titan of a saloon car and a landmark M5. The odometer indicates just 46,100 miles from new, which is fully supported by BMW service history.

Powered by a 500bhp 5.0-litre V10 engine, driven through the rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential manual gearbox (SMG), the E60 M5 was launched to rave reviews with the thunderous engine a key factor. In a 2017 retrospective, CAR magazine’s Ben Barry wrote: “What happens post-5500rpm is insane, a kind of elasticity of velocity that continues to manically increase in rate long after you thought the crank would be banging on the canvas.”

First registered on 29 June 2006, the car has had only two previous owners. The seller has owned the car for around four years, covering around 17,000 miles in that time. He has kept the car under an extended warranty policy.

The Black Sapphire Metallic bodywork presents very well, the subtle colour complementing the Q-car status, and the seller notes only a few minor defects - a 10mm light scratch on the passenger rear door, a small scratch on the front bumper and a small stone chip to the driver’s side front wing. Overall, the paint finish is in great shape, with a smooth and glossy appearance around the body. It rides on original 19-inch wheels that are in good order, with just a few kerbing marks. The seller notes there is a small chip in the windscreen that was present when he purchased the car, which has been treated with gel and did not require replacement.

Moving inside, the full black leather presents excellently with minimal wear. The seller reports a very small light scratch to the passenger front seat and also on the passenger door electric window panel. The black leather is complemented by the three-spoke M steering wheel with tri-colour stitching, while the dashboard and doors are accented by brushed aluminium trim pieces.

This example is specified with glass sunroof and M multi-function seats, which include active backrest width positioning and full electric adjustment, as well as memory settings and three-stage heating. Beyond this, the E60 boasts countless comfort options and a great deal of technology including dual-zone climate control, adaptive xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, head-up display, and more.

As shown in the photographs, the car has a stamped service book from BMW service centres, the most recent service of which was carried out in January 2020 at 45,059 miles by Cooper BMW Croydon. This service included replacement of the engine oil, filter and micro-filter element, a new thermostat and coolant temperature sensor, and renewal of a rear wheel speed sensor. The intake silencer was also serviced. The two prior maintenance visits were also carried out by Cooper BMW Croydon in June 2018 and June 2019. The seller also notes a faulty electric steering lock was replaced in 2017 and the battery was changed in 2016. A summary of the service history is below.

The last MOT test was on 6 June 2019 at 42,159 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. Due to the six-month extension, the next MOT is not due until 12 December 2020. The seller notes that the rear brake pads and discs will likely need replacing soon. The car wears Continental SportContact tyres all round, which were fitted in 2017.

Sold with all handbooks, tools and two keys, the car is also current under an extended BMW warranty and has a Tracker fitted. It is believed that both of these could be continued at the next owner's cost. The cost of full warranty cover is just under £130 per month in the current ownership.

This BMW M5 is a thrilling performance car with an incredible V10 soundtrack.
