2005 TVR SAGARIS

This 2005 TVR Sagaris is a striking and engaging British sports car, presented in very good overall condition and benefitting from a number of discerning upgrades. On opening the bonnet, you are met by the thunderous 4.0-litre straight-six, which has been tuned to produce 411bhp at the flywheel and drives the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 45,235 miles from new.

First registered in June 2005, the car has been enjoyed by its current keeper for the last 13 years, and is now offered for sale to its next enthusiast owner. There are just two previous keepers on the V5C.

Today, the bodywork remains in great shape, with no evidence of any prior damage and with flush, even shut lines. Believed to be entirely original, the Laser Blue paintwork is in fair condition, but does feature a number of blemishes, including various stone chips on the nose, a small scratch on the driver’s-side rear wing and scuffs to the underside where the car has grounded out slightly. The vendor also notes that the driver’s-side front splitter has been replaced, but the rest of the exterior trims are in good order. This Sagaris rides on its original set of 18-inch, six-spoke alloy wheels.

Moving inside, the cabin is trimmed in its original black leather upholstery and is very smart. While there are a few minor signs of use, including slight creases and wear on the seat bolsters and marks on the steering wheel and door cards, these are strictly cosmetic, and there is no damage or significant discolouration. Painted in the same vibrant Laser Blue hue as the body, the seatbacks provide an attractive contrast, while a matching blue headlining completes the theme. The vendor notes that additional rotary dials have been fitted to the steering column to select the ECU map and adjust the multi-level traction control system, and entertainment is provided via a four-speaker Pioneer radio / CD / MP3 player. All of the switchgear works without fault, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

This Sagaris’ most recent routine maintenance was carried out in July 2019 at 45,127 miles by TVR specialist Wilton-Morgan Automobile Engineering, which included replacement of the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and seals, as well as the coolant sensor. Prior to this, a general service was carried out in August 2018 at 45,027 miles when an oil pipe was also replaced, and a full service was performed in December 2016 at 44,488 miles, which also included replacement of the steering rack gaiter, the front anti-roll bar drop links and the rear anti-roll bar rose joints.

During the vendor’s ownership, the car has also benefitted from a full engine rebuild. While this was underway, it was fitted with a desirable Racing Green FFF2 head, which is fully redesigned to use bucket valve actuation in place of the standard – and often unreliable – finger follower system, while also providing additional oil and coolant pathways.

Further modifications include a Simplex timing chain conversion, a baffled sump, upgraded injectors and a Syvecs ECU, which has been tuned by renowned tuner Ryan Griffiths. The result is a genuine output of 411bhp at the flywheel, rather than its original 350bhp.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 8 March 2021 at 45,229 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass without a single advisory. All four wheels are fitted with Toyo Proxes T1-R tyres, which are in good condition but date to 2008 at the front and 2010 at the rear.

The car will be accompanied by all of its original paperwork, documentation of its service history including various bills and invoices, and its past MOT test certificates. In addition, the seller is supplying a heavy-duty charging cable with an Anderson connector and a small collection of spare parts, including fuses, relays and a throttle cable repair kit. The car is also equipped with a Meta immobiliser and CobraTrak tracker.

Surprisingly accessible yet endlessly thrilling, this TVR Sagaris is a glorious analogue sports car. While the seller describes it as a ‘driven’ car rather than a ‘show’ car, it still presents very well for its age. Indeed, as with all TVRs, the true enjoyment is in the driving, and this Sagaris is sure to bring a smile to its next owner’s face whenever they take the wheel and fire up its characterful straight-six.
