2005 RENAULTSPORT CLIO 182 TROPHY

This 2005 Renaultsport Clio 182 Trophy is a sympathetically customised example of a sought-after limited-edition hot hatch, with a Milltek stainless steel exhaust, braided front brake lines and an ITG Maxogen carbon-fibre air induction kit. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated inline-four engine producing 180bhp, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. This car has unashamedly been driven and enjoyed as intended, and the odometer shows 163,309 miles from new.

First registered in November 2005, this is car number 452 of just 500 examples built for the UK market, and there are four previous registered keepers on the logbook. The seller acquired the car in August 2020, and notes there are invoices present for all maintenance carried out from 2007.

The bodywork of this Clio 182 Trophy is reported to be in good order, and the service booklet notes some warranty repair work carried out by Renault in December 2006. The car’s Capsicum Red presents very well for the age and mileage, with the vendor noting a few stone chips to the bonnet. It rides on its original 16-inch 11-spoke Renaultsport alloy wheels, which have some bubbling under the paint and minor kerb grazes around the rims.

In the cabin, the original Recaro seats are present, though the vendor has reported some age-related wear, notably to the driver’s bolster, though the door cards, footwells and dashboard are still in good order. The gear knob and steering wheel also show some wear, commensurate with the mileage, but the interior is in good condition overall. There are also no known issues with any interior controls or electrics. Its factory-fitted radio remains installed, while the car comes equipped with air-conditioning and cruise control.

The last service was undertaken in September 2019 by Scole Engineering in Norfolk, where the car was fitted with a new clutch, handbrake cable, non-adjustable Koni Sport rear dampers, new front wheel arch liners, two new Pirelli P Zero GT tyres, EBC rear brake pads and a new set of pads and discs for the front brakes. The car also underwent a gearbox oil change and had repairs to its exhaust downpipe flange.

Prior to this in November 2018, the Clio received an oil and fuel filter change as well as fresh coolant and antifreeze. The year before, in September 2017, the car received similar treatment, as well as a new brake pedal switch. The car’s comprehensive maintenance history shows the cambelt was last replaced at 82,000 miles. It has been tastefully modified with a Milltek exhaust system, ITG Maxogen carbon-fibre induction system and braided front brake lines for a high-performance edge.

The last MOT test was on the 16 April 2019 at 153,743 miles, which resulted in a pass with advisories about the exhaust pipe flange – which was repaired five months later – wear to the offside rear inner brake disc, corrosion on the rear brake pipe, a slight oil leak, slight play in the front steering rack inner joints, and rear tyre wear. This MOT was given a six-month extension due to the Covid-19 pandemic and is now due for renewal by 22 October 2020.

Accompanying the Clio are the original Renaultsport handbooks and fully stamped service book in their factory carry pouch, along with invoices for every service since 2007.

This 2005 Renaultsport Clio 182 Trophy is a smart example of a coveted ‘everyman’ performance hero, which benefits from comprehensive annual maintenance history. It has evidently been thoroughly enjoyed over the years, and now it is ready for a new owner to drive and relish on their favourite roads.
