2005 PORSCHE (987) BOXSTER 2.7 MANUAL

This Porsche Boxster is a smart example of the 987.1 model, which benefits from a no-frills driver-focused specification, and genuine low mileage. It is powered by the 241bhp 2.7-litre flat-six M97.20 engine, driven through the rear wheels by a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 49,511 miles from new.

First registered in March 2005, the clear HPI report on file shows just one previous registered keeper. It was purchased from its second private owner by the trade around six months ago.

As you would expect from a Porsche of this era, the build quality is superb, and the bodywork remains in excellent condition. The black paint finish is smooth and even around the car, though there are a few blemishes from road use. The photos show some small stone chips around the front and the flanks, though there is paint protection film in place ahead of the rear arches. Part of the model badge on the rear boot lid is also missing. It rides on an original set of 17-inch ‘Boxster II’ alloy wheels, which are in great shape with only a very minor kerb mark on one rim.

Inside, this Boxster was specified with the extended leather trim, so the black hide is also present on the dashboard panel, door tops, storage pocket lids, and around the steering wheel rim. There are no rips or tears in the leather itself, and only wear in line with the age and mileage. The plastic sill cover trim is quite heavily scuffed on the driver’s side. As with the exterior, a deep clean and detailing session would be an easy way to bring the appearance to a high standard.

The factory-fitted equipment includes the comfort seats with manual height adjustment and electric control for the backrest position, air-conditioning, heated rear screen, and the Porsche CDR24 stereo system and CD player. All of the switchgear works as it should, and there are no electric faults. The roof mechanism works perfectly, and the black fabric hood is in good condition.

The car has just received a fresh oil and filter service and inspection in April 2020 carried out by Trident Motor Services in Bushey. Prior to this, it was seen by Deutsch Tech in August 2019 at 48,362 miles for an inspection of the rear brakes, and for an oil service at the same independent garage in November 2017. The brake discs and pads were renewed by Deutsch Tech in December 2016 at 40,627 miles, while the auxiliary drive belt was last replaced by Porsche specialist Portiacraft in October 2015 at 35,891 miles.

The most recent MOT test was on 22 January 2020 at 49,109 miles. It passed with only a few advisories noted, including wear on the offside rear brake disc, some corrosion on the offside front coil spring, and slight discolouration of the rear indicator lenses. The nearside rear tyre is also close to needing replacement.

Accompanying the car are all of the original books, including the driver’s manual and the stamped guarantee and maintenance record. Various old receipts for service work are also in the history file. Two keys are present, along with the original tools, warning triangle, and tyre inflator pump.

This Porsche Boxster (987.1) 2.7 is a wonderful sports car, boasting a responsive naturally aspirated engine and a superb handling balance. It has been enjoyed as intended by its previous owner, but remains in sound mechanical condition. There are only a few small items that will need replacement in due course, but otherwise this is a great open-top driver’s car that is ready to relish in the summer weather.
