2005 PORSCHE 911 (996) TURBO S CABRIOLET - 17,400 MILES

This Porsche 996 Turbo S Cabriolet is a coveted modern supercar, presented in superb condition, and with very low mileage. Its engine is the wonderful 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six ‘Mezger’ motor, in 444bhp ‘X50’ guise, with four-wheel drive via the six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 17,397 miles from new.

Launched in 2005, the two key features of the Turbo S specification were the X50 Powerkit - which comprised larger turbos, uprated intercoolers and a revised ECU - and the standard fitment of Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) discs. The former hiked power from 414bhp to 444bhp, while the latter helped to wipe off speed more quickly - particularly important now that the car could hit 190mph.

This car was supplied to its first owner in February 2005 through Porsche Centre Jersey. It remained on the island for the next nine years, benefitting from an unstressed life and low mileage use. It was brought across from Jersey to the UK in late 2014, and it has been with the second private owner ever since. He has since enjoyed some 5,400 miles behind the wheel.

The bodywork is in excellent condition, with no accident damage, and only two small blemishes around the offside rear wheel arch - which the seller states are only really noticeable when looking closely down the flank of the car. Its Polar Silver paint is in very good order, as shown in detail in the photo gallery, with only the odd minor stone chip present around the lower body. The plastic front lip spoiler is in great shape, with only very small marks.

The door jambs, bonnet and engine bay shuts are all in superb condition, with no corrosion or defects around the panels. All of the light lenses also present well, and are free of chips and cracks. It has a dark blue fabric soft top, which has a few small marks, but overall looks very smart, and fits snugly over the frame. Its heated rear window is free of clouding. The seller states that the car includes the factory hard top, which is in excellent condition, and it also comes with the Porsche hard top stand. It rides on the correct 18-inch Turbo alloy wheels, which present very well.

In the cabin, there is extended dark blue draped leather trim for the front and rear seats, door panels, and instrument binnacle. It is accented by special order blue stitching throughout, and there are Porsche crests embossed on the front headrests. All of the upholstery is in superb condition, with very little wear to speak of. There are a few light scuffs and scratches around the common wear areas, such as the door handles, plastic sill covers, and speaker surrounds.

It retains the original three-spoke steering wheel, and there is optional aluminium and leather trim for the gear lever and handbrake grip. The car was also specified with the body-coloured centre console. The seats have electric adjustment, as well as memory settings on the driver’s side, while other factory-fitted equipment includes PCM with telephone module, cruise control, climate control, and the BOSE surround-sound system.

The last scheduled service was carried out by Porsche specialist Charles Ivey in February 2020 at 17,085 miles. This consisted of a minor maintenance visit. Prior to this, it was seen by Porsche West London in February 2017 at 14,221 miles for a major maintenance and new brake fluid, and by marque specialist Chappell Sports Cars in January 2015 at 11,796 miles for an oil service and spark plugs.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 24 January 2020 at 17,055 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories whatsoever. It is shod in Bridgestone Potenza tyres all round, which were fitted in December 2017, and have only covered around 2,000 miles.

Accompanying the car are all of the original books, including the driver’s manual and the stamped guarantee and maintenance record. A space-saver spare wheel, tools, and air compressor and still stored under the boot floor.

This Porsche 996 Turbo S Cabriolet is a superb example of the breed, which has been cherished by its owners, and boasts very low mileage. It is an involving and exciting high-performance road car, and is one of the last truly analogue driving experiences. Just 1,563 examples of the 996 Turbo S are understood to have been delivered worldwide, so this is also a very rare modern classic that would be a fine addition to any collection.
