2005 PORSCHE 911 (996) TURBO S

This Porsche 911 (996) Turbo S is an excellent example of the daily-driveable supercar, presented in very smart condition and finished in a handsome factory colour scheme of Atlas Grey with a black leather interior. Under the bonnet is Porsche’s renowned 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six ‘Mezger’ engine, producing 444bhp, which is sent to all four wheels via the five-speed Tiptronic S semi-automatic gearbox, with shift buttons on the steering wheel. The odometer shows 72,444 miles from new.

Released in 2005, close to the end of the 996 generation production, the Turbo S offered a number of upgrades over the regular Turbo. Firstly, it came with the ‘X50 Powerkit’ as standard, consisting of larger turbochargers and intercoolers, and a tweaked ECU, resulting in an increase from 414bhp to 444bhp. In addition, this factory-built ‘Turbo S’ also featured the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system (PCCB), signified by the fitting of yellow calipers, as well as a six-disc CD changer and aluminium instrument faces.

First registered on 13 June 2005, this particular example of the 996 Turbo S has even more of a connection to its manufacturer than most, having been first owned by former managing director of Porsche Cars Great Britain, Geoff Turrell, who specified the car as it appears today. Now in the hands of its fourth owner, the car has covered 13,400 miles in the last eight years.

Both the bodywork and the Atlas Grey paint are described by the seller as being in excellent overall condition. The only marks of note are a minor scratch to the driver’s side mirror cover and a very small mark to one of the rear wheel arches – as a result of the lacquer being rubbed away. There are also some very small stone chips to the front bumper and wing mirrors from road use.

The light lenses are in excellent, clear condition, with no signs of cracking or hazing. It also benefits from the inclusion of a rear wiper, and rides on its original 18-inch ‘Turbo Twist’ alloy wheels, which are finished in silver and are in pristine condition.

Looking to the interior, the door cards, dashboard panels and seats are all trimmed in black leather with light contrast stitching. The front seat headrests are also embossed with the historic Porsche crest, adding a subtle yet distinctive touch to the cabin. All of the upholstery and interior trim is in excellent condition, with no rips, tears or significant marks, and only mild wear on the driver’s seat in line with the age and mileage.

Equipped with a power sunroof, Bose sound system including CD changer, heated front seats and cruise control, the car is as well suited to long-distance journeys as it is to winding backroads, with its power being kept in check by the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system, which can be disengaged if desired.

The last scheduled maintenance was a minor service carried out in May 2020 at 72,295 miles. Before this, the car was looked after by Porsche specialist R to RSR Ltd from 2014 to 2017, and was maintained by various Official Porsche Centres from 2005 to 2011.

As well as regular servicing, this Turbo S has also benefitted from a number of mechanical renovations during its life so far, including a full engine strip-down in 2014, the fitting of new piston rings, timing chains and gaskets in 2015, and refurbishment of the two turbochargers in 2016.

The most recent MOT test was on 24 April 2020 at 72,261 miles, resulting in a clean pass with no advisories. All four wheels have recently been fitted with high-performance Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres, with the rears having been replaced in May 2020 with less than 100 miles driven since, and with the front tyres having covered just 500 miles.

Accompanying the car is its original leather-bound document wallet, including all handbooks, manuals and the stamped service record, as well as the original tool kit and unused space-saver spare wheel. The seller also has a file of past MOT test certificates and receipts for maintenance and repair work. The cherished registration mark ‘252 RYA’ is included in the sale.

Described by Evo magazine as “the sensible supercar”, the Porsche 996 Turbo S is a stunning and eminently usable high-performance coupe. Well-equipped and presented in very smart condition, this example is ready and waiting to hit the road, where it’s sure to provide as much entertainment as it did when it first left the showroom in 2005.

Please note: a Porsche 911 Targa that previously wore the registration ‘252 RYA’ suffered fire damage in 2003, and this is currently recorded as a notation on a vehicle history check for the number plate. The 996 Turbo S offered here was built in 2005, and is not the same car.
