This Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG is a rare high-performance convertible, boasting low mileage and a stunning factory colour scheme. Under the bonnet is the car’s party piece, the 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine – producing an astonishing 604bhp and 738lb-ft of torque – coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission, with a resulting 0-60mph time of just 4.1 seconds. First registered on 1 July 2005, this R230-generation SL 65 AMG was the most powerful series production roadster in the world at the time of its launch, combining the comfort and refinement that Mercedes-Benz are known for, with supercar-baiting performance. Its log book lists just two previous keepers, and the car is now being sold by its current owner, who acquired the car around one year ago.

Today, the bodywork remains in excellent condition, with smooth shut lines and no signs of dents or accident damage. The rare Mystic Blue Metallic paintwork is deep and glossy, emphasising the car’s sharp lines, with only minor blemishes including some small stone chips to the front bumper and bonnet. Its black C-pillar trims have faded over time, as shown in the photo gallery, but new replacements are included in the sale.

Elsewhere, the exterior trim and badging presents very well, and the light lenses are bright, clear and free of cracks and scratches. The seller notes a small stone chip on the windscreen. This SL 65 rides on its original 19-inch modular five-spoke AMG wheels with Titanium Grey faces and alloy lips. All four are in great shape, with no signs of kerb damage or chips to the painted finish.

In the cabin, luxurious leather covers most of the interior surfaces, with the seats and lower dashboard upholstered in light grey hide, while the upper dashboard, gear knob and upper door cards finished in a darker hue, creating a smart two-tone appearance. Presenting in excellent condition throughout, there are few signs of wear to the leather items, save for some discolouration to the automatic gear selector.

Adding an extra touch of class to the high-quality interior, the climate controls and gear selector are surrounded by walnut veneer inlays, which also feature on the door cards. This SL 65 is generously equipped, and includes the multi-contour power adjustable heated seats with pulse massage functionality. All of the interior switchgear and electrical items are working without fault, including the retractable hardtop.

Original and well cared-for, the car is in very good mechanical order. Most recently, it received an oil service on 23 May 2019 at Mercedes-Benz of Stoke, which also carried out the car’s services in May 2018 and May 2017.

Its last annual MOT test was carried out on 30 March 2020 at 21,354 miles, where it received a clean, first-time pass with no advisories – as has been the case for the last six years. The wheels are fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres, which are around two years old and which still have plenty of tread remaining.
