2005 MERCEDES-BENZ (C215) CL500

KEY FACTS

  • A sound example of the luxurious grand tourer, presented in good overall condition and with no reported mechanical faults.
  • Under the bonnet is the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, which produces 302bhp and 339lb-ft of torque, and drives the rear wheels via a silken five-speed automatic transmission.
  • First registered in Ireland in June 2005, this CL500 was imported into the UK and registered with the DVLA in May 2019.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • As a C125-generation example, this CL-class is equipped with bi-xenon headlights and the hydraulic Active Body Control (ABC) suspension system.
  • Optional equipment includes soft-close doors, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function and an electrically operated bootlid.
  • It rides on a distinctive set of 20-inch Maybach-style polished alloy wheels, which are unmarked.
  • Originally clad in wood veneer, the centre console and door card trim panels have been refinished with a carbon-effect covering.
  • Entertainment is provided via a retrofitted Pioneer infotainment system.
  • The exhaust system has also been replaced with a ‘straight pipe’ setup, which gives this CL-class a thunderous soundtrack.
  • The car will be accompanied by its original owner’s handbook and partial documentation of its service history.

CONDITION

  • No bodywork damage.
  • While it is not known whether the paintwork has been resprayed in the past, it presents well, with only a few minor blemishes, including stone chips on the nose, a few small scratches on the driver’s-side of the front bumper and bubbling on the lower passenger-side of the bonnet, between the headlights.
  • Inside, the cabin’s upholstery and trim is in good shape given the car’s age and mileage, though there are a few minor scuffs and blemishes, as well as small rips to the leather between the rear seats, while the plastic trim surrounding the headlight switch appears to have become somewhat ‘sticky’ with age.
  • The sunroof is currently stuck in the closed position, but otherwise there are no known electrical or mechanical faults.
  • The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 19 April 2021 at 119,462 miles, which resulted in a clean, first-time pass.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This CL500’s most recent routine maintenance was an oil and filter change, which was carried out prior to the seller’s ownership at approximately 114,000 miles, however there is no paperwork for this.
  • Prior to this, the engine oil and air filter were also renewed in January 2020 at 112,587 miles.

SUMMARY

Handsome, well-equipped and built to a high standard, the C215-generation Mercedes CL500 is an appealing luxury grand tourer. Equipped with a naturally aspirated V8, which is now even more vocal thanks to the aftermarket exhaust; this example will turn heads while also being a comfortable long-distance tourer for its next owner.
