2005 MASERATI 4200 SPYDER

This Maserati 4200 Spyder is a low-mileage example of an exotic Italian sports car, finished in a racy factory colour and presented in superb condition throughout. Under the bonnet is the Ferrari-built 4.2-litre F136R V8, producing 385bhp, driving the rear wheels through the six-speed Cambiocorsa automated-manual transmission with paddle shifters. The odometer shows just 24,230 miles from new.

A genuine UK right-hand drive example, this car features the Skyhook adaptive suspension system as standard. It was specified from the factory in vibrant Rosso Mondiale, paired with a light Avorio leather interior, with black contrast elements. It was supplied by Graypaul Nottingham and first registered in January 2005. There are three previous registered keepers, and it has been with the current owner for 18 months, who has enjoyed some 2,200 miles behind the wheel.

The bodywork presents in excellent condition, with flush shut lines and consistent panel gaps all around the car. There is no signs of any corrosion whatsoever, and the door jambs, bonnet and boot shut channels are all in great shape. Its Rosso Mondiale paint finish is in very good order, with only the expected small amount of stone chips from road use, but with no scrapes or dents. The black fabric soft top presents very well, with no damage or fading, and fits snugly over the frame. The car rides on the original 18-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, which are pristine.

The interior presents in superb order throughout, with the seats upholstered in Avorio leather that contrasts beautifully with the paintwork. The upper door panels and lower dashboard trim is also finished in Avorio leather, with the lower doors and upper dashboard are in black, and all of the sections are accented by red stitching. All of the trim is in good condition, with only slight wear on the driver’s seat. It has air-conditioning and heated seats, with memory settings on the driver’s side. There are also aluminium inlays on the door cards and centre console, and Jaeger instrument dials with blue fascias.

This car has been looked after exclusively by Maserati main dealers and marque specialists, including Graypaul, Meridien Modena, Autofficina, and Carrs. As such, it presents in excellent mechanical condition. The most recent service was in December 2019 at 23,950 miles, carried out by Barkaways Ferrari, and more recently the steering rack boots have also been replaced. Prior to this, it was also serviced in December 2018 and December 2017, both at Carrs Maserati. The seller notes that the roof mechanism has also had some adjustment, to ensure it operates smoothly and fits well.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 5 February 2020 at 23,854 miles. Initially the steering rack joint boots were found to be damaged, so both sides were renewed - as noted above. After this, the car passed cleanly with no advisories whatsoever. The tyres are in good condition with around 4mm of tread, though are slightly old so may benefit from replacement with fresh rubber in due course.

Accompanying the car is the original blue leather wallet, containing all of the supplied handbooks and the stamped maintenance record. The original tool-kit, tyre foam, and tyre inflator are also present. The seller notes that there is only one key with the car.

This Maserati 4200 Spyder is an exotic open-top sports car in a superb factory colour scheme. There are believed to be fewer than 200 Spyders in the UK, and as such they are a rare sight on the road. Its Ferrari-built V8 provides impressive performance, while the chassis and suspension setup mean it is a genuine comfortable and sophisticated modern classic.
