2005 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 XS TD5

This Land Rover Defender 90 XS is a smart example of the renowned 4x4, finished in a timeless colour scheme and in highly original condition. Under the bonnet is a 2.5-litre TD5 engine, with four-wheel drive via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 73,343 miles.

First registered on 28 October 2005, there are just two previous registered keepers on the V5C. The owner acquired the car in May 2019.

The car is never believed to have suffered from any prior accident damage, with the panels looking smooth and with flush shut lines - the only exception being a very small dent just ahead of the offside wheel arch as shown in the photos. Its grey paintwork looks smart, with only minor imperfections commensurate with the age and mileage.

The Defender logo on the front grille is slightly worn, as are the side protection runners, and the body fixtures have surface rust - though of course the body panels are aluminium. It rides on a set of 16-inch ‘Boost’ alloy wheels, which are all in great shape.

Inside, all of the seat upholstery and cabin trim remains entirely original and presents in very good condition. The half-leather seats have some creasing on their bases and bolsters, but no heavy discolouration or damage. There is a cubby box between the seats, and there are four fold-down seats in the rear compartment trimmed in matching upholstery. Small nicks and scuffs are present on some of the hardwearing plastics, and the passenger air vent is slightly damaged, but overall the interior looks smart.

Its stereo head unit has been replaced with a flip-out touch-screen Pioneer media system, though the original one is also provided with the car. The factory specification also includes heated front seats, and there are no known electrical faults.

The last scheduled maintenance was in August 2020 at 73,182 miles, carried out by SWB Autos, which comprised an engine oil and filter change, and a general check-over. The vendor has added a synchro gearbox adapter to enable a shorter shift gear change, and again the original parts are provided. Prior to this, its service history is unknown.

The most recent MOT test was on 14 August 2020 at 73,182 miles, which resulted in a pass with no advisories after some attention to the windscreen wipers and lights. The vendor reports that the front brake pads will need replacement in the near future. Its Continental CrossContact tyres are reported to be in good condition.

The Defender is accompanied by its original handbooks and folder, though there is no service book present. An original car jack is also included.

This Land Rover Defender 90 XS TD5 is an immensely capable off-roader, which is also an eminently practical road car as a daily driver or for family transport. It could be put into service immediately as a utility ‘workhorse’, or is otherwise ready to enjoy as an adventure vehicle or for country pursuits.
