2005 BMW ALPINA ROADSTER S

This BMW Alpina Roadster S is a rare and collectable sports car with superb performance, presented in excellent condition. Based on the Z4 and extensively tuned by Alpina, the Roadster S features significant suspension upgrades and is the manufacturer’s last car to feature a hand-built engine produced by the team in their Buchloe facility.

It features the same 3.3-litre straight-six as used in the B3 S, producing around 300bhp and 266lb ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox.

One of just 167 right-hand drive Roadster S models built, this example shows just 46,470 miles on the odometer. The current owner has driven the car sparingly, and the car remains in superb order throughout.

The sleek, Alpina-enhanced bodywork and striking bright red paint are described by the seller as being in excellent condition, save for some small stone chips to the front bumper and boot lid, which have been touched in, but which are still visible when viewed closely. The car’s Alpina-branded front lip spoiler has also suffered some scraping to its underside, as is common with low-slung sports cars.

The car rides on its factory silver-painted Alpina 19-inch ‘Dynamic’ wheels, which are in excellent condition. In addition, the seller is also including the car’s original, colour-coded hardtop, which is also in outstanding condition, providing enhanced comfort for occupants during the winter months.

In the cabin, the Oregon black leather seats, Alpina-badged steering wheel and trim all present well, highlighted by contrasting red stitching. It also features bespoke Alpina sill plates, adding an extra touch of exclusivity to an already special vehicle. The interior is very smart and largely unmarked, though there is modest wear to the steering wheel and the outside driver’s seat bolster, commensurate with the car’s age and mileage.

Comfort features include climate control, cruise control, and power-adjustable heated seats. There is also a removable wind-deflector, which can be mounted to the underside of the boot lid when not installed behind the seats. A six-disc CD changer is also present.

This Roadster S is in great mechanical condition. Indeed, the only foible noted by the current owner is a slight knocking sound from the roof, which is only present when the hardtop is fitted. In October 2019, the standard BMW clutch delay valve was removed to provide a more direct pedal feel, and a faulty nearside headlamp washer jet was replaced at the same time.

The last scheduled service was carried out by WVC Service Centre of Byfleet in May 2019 at 45,108 miles, consisting of an oil and filter change plus general inspection. Prior to this, services were carried out in 2017 at 42,464 miles and in 2016 at 41,697miles.

The car’s last MOT test took place in May 2019 at 45,015 miles, when it received a clean pass with no advisories. With the six-month extension due to Covid-19, its next test is not due until 22 November 2020.

Its tyres are described as having plenty of remaining tread, with nearly-new Goodyear Eagle F1 items on the rear. Michelin Pilot Sport tyres are fitted at the front, although these do show some cracking to the outer tread and shoulders.

Accompanying the car is its original Alpina-branded leather document wallet, as well as all handbooks, a detailed service history, and the full original tool kit. Tyre sealant is present, as well as an unopened BMW first aid kit, plus a car cover and a stand for the matching hardtop.

A remarkably rare sight on the road, this Alpina Roadster S is an outstanding example of the famed manufacturer’s bespoke approach to BMW tuning. Thanks to its excellent condition and low mileage, it’s now ready to provide its next owner with many more years of open-top motoring, and is available just in time for the start of summer.
