2004 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI - LITCHFIELD TYPE 25

KEY FACTS

• Famously dubbed ‘the best Impreza on Planet Earth’ by Chris Harris in Autocar magazine at launch, this is one of just 38 Litchfield Type 25 variants of the Impreza WRX STI; a more sharply honed iteration of the iconic rally-derived performance saloon.
• Powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged flat-four engine, tuned to 369bhp and 380lb ft of torque which is delivered to all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
• This example has been fastidiously cared for by the current owner and benefits from some discreet performance upgrades.
• This Impreza was first registered in the UK in October 2004 and has just three UK registered keepers in total.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• The Litchfield Type 25 was based on a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) version of the WRX STI but fitted with the larger 2.5-litre flat-four that Subaru was manufacturing for the US market to produce more power on their lower-grade fuel. When run on UK quality petrol, the engine was producing a comfortable 350bhp.
• The JDM STI also included a quicker steering rack, shorter gearing, Driver Controlled Centre Differential, and intercooler water spray. Litchfield added AST suspension, upgraded anti-roll bars, a hybrid turbocharger, and a Milltek exhaust with sports catalytic converter.
• In addition to its already impressive specification, this car has been upgraded with a PSi3 ECU monitor, uprated forged Cosworth pistons, head studs and head gaskets, and a Roger Clarke Motorsport manifold. Following an engine management remap at Roger Clarke, the car now produces 369bhp and 380lb/ft of torque.
• Finished in the vibrant Subaru WR Blue, the interior complements this colour scheme with black cloth seats highlighted by blue microfibre suede inserts, as well as a coordinating blue carpet.
• There are no modifications fitted aside from the uprated engine parts and ECU system.
• The car is accompanied by the original invoices and correspondence from Litchfield, the Litchfield warranty and service book, all invoices for work carried out, the owner’s manual in English, and the original (sealed) Japanese version. Additionally, there are previous MOT certificates, printouts from the Litchfield Type 25 website, copies of reviews from Evo and Autocar magazines, and two sets of keys and remotes.
• Also included in the sale is a second bootlid, fitted with the original Type 25 Spec C-style carbon fibre spoiler.

CONDITION

• There is no known bodywork damage.
• Overall, the WR Blue paintwork presents well. There is a very small mark to the passenger side door, and some minor dents in the roof which are visible only upon close inspection.
• Other imperfections include some stone chips around the car, a slight imperfection under the headlight on the front bumper, a very minor scuff on the rear bumper (which has been touched in), and surface wear to the paint on the wing mirrors and on the top of the rear bumper near the bootlid. The bonnet scoop has recently been resprayed.
• Inside, the original interior is in excellent condition, with some wear marks on the driver’s footwell mat commensurate with the age of the car. All touchpoints and switchgear present very well, with no visible marks.
• The most recent MOT test was in August 2021 at 68,699 miles, when the car passed with no advisories following the replacement of a registration plate light bulb.

SERVICE HISTORY

• The car was serviced in August 2021 at 68,699 miles by G.P Motors Teddington, who carried out an engine oil and filter change alongside the MOT.
• Prior to this, it was serviced in May 2020 at 66,280 miles by Synergy Supercars, who fitted refurbished AST coilovers and changed the engine, gearbox and front and rear differential oils.
• The car was also serviced in May 2019 at 65,753 miles by TFS Racing (Subaru specialist). During this service, the engine oil, filter and coolant were changed, the cylinder head was skimmed, Cosworth head gaskets were fitted, and a crack in the exhaust downpipe was welded.
