2004 RENAULT CLIO V6 255 PHASE 2

This Renaultsport Clio V6 is a subtly modified example of the lauded mid-engine hot hatch, which has been enjoyed as intended, and which is offered in good condition. This is a ‘Phase 2’ model, meaning it has the extended wheelbase and track width for improved handling. Replacing the rear seats is a 252bhp 3.0-litre V6, which drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 65,863 miles from new.

First registered in September 2004, this example marks car number 248 of only 354 units manufactured for the UK market. There are four previous keepers on the log book, and it has been in the current owner’s possession for three years. The vehicle has been modified with a Janspeed exhaust manifold, a sports catalyst and a custom backbox from Pipe Werx. It is also fitted with KW V3 coilover suspension and a front strut bar.

The bodywork of this Clio V6 is reported to be in good condition. The nearside rear corner of the bumper was damaged by a careless driver who didn’t leave a note, and was repaired to a high standard by a professional recommended by Renaultsport specialist SG Motorsport. The front bumper presents with several minor stone chips, while a scrape is visible under close inspection on its underside. The vendor has also reported a small chip on top of the offside sill area. When the rear bumper was replaced, it was refinished in the correct Illiad Blue and blended into the boot lid and quarter panels. The vehicle rides on the original 18-inch alloy wheels, which are in great shape having been refurbished in 2018.

Inside, the cabin has been upgraded with a set of Recaro Trendline seats which continue the blue colour scheme, while the steering wheel has been refurbished by Royal Steering Wheels and now looks immaculate, with no wear to the main contact points. The trim is in good order, with no notable damage to any interior plastics.

Factory-fitted equipment includes climate control, cruise control and xenon headlights, while the car also comes with the original Cabasse stereo system. The vendor has reported all the interior controls and electrics work as they should, though they note that the check engine warning light is illuminated, caused by the installation of the sports catalytic converter.

The last service was undertaken in May 2020 at 65,285 miles, where technicians at SG Motorsport changed the engine oil, filter and brake fluid, before fitting a new rear brake calliper. Prior to this, it was serviced in May 2019, and received two new front coil springs and two Michelin Pilot Sport tyres for the rear. During the November 2018 maintenance, the car also had an air-conditioning service, new cam belt, water pump, and engine mount, as well as new brake discs and pads all round. The vendor reports that during their ownership, the car has also been fitted with a new starter motor and a new washer fluid pump.

The most recent MOT test was on 13 May 2020 at 65,285 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The wheels are wrapped in Michelin tyres on all four corners. The front tyres were fitted in 2013 and have around 5mm of tread remaining, while the rear tyres fitted in 2019 still have around 6mm.

Accompanying the car are original handbooks, the toolkit and two working keys. While the vendor reports that the stamped service book and early history was lost by a previous owner, there is paperwork from his ownership, showing maintenance by SG Motorsport – unquestionably one of the UK’s leading Clio V6 specialists.

This Renaultsport Clio V6 is a smart Phase 2 example of the limited-edition hot hatch icon, presented in good condition throughout, and with a selection of discerning modifications to make it even more rewarding on the road.
