2004 PORSCHE 911 (996) 40TH ANNIVERSARY

KEY FACTS

  • A handsome example of the rare 40th Anniversary edition, this 2004 Porsche 996 is one of only 1,963 cars delivered worldwide.
  • Under the rear engine cover is the 3.6-litre flat-six engine, which features the factory X51 Powerkit to boost power to 345bhp, and drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
  • The 40th Anniversary includes a number of unique features and options that set it apart from the standard 911s of its generation, and this car benefits from a solid service history.
  • It features the rare option of the Porsche Switchable Sports Exhaust (PSE).

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • Created to celebrate 40 years of the 911, this Porsche 996 boasts a specification that Total 911 magazine said “verges on perfection”. It is one of approximately 200 UK-market cars.
  • The 40th Anniversary narrow-body Carrera features a number of enhancements, including the Powerkit, which was ordinarily a £9,000 option and includes cast-aluminium intake manifolds with a modified cross section; larger, machined and polished exhaust ducts, and a revised valvetrain.
  • This is one of very few examples of the 40th Anniversary model specified with the optional and highly desirable Porsche Switchable Sports Exhaust (PSE) system. It is also equipped with a limited-slip differential and lowered sports suspension.
  • There are also a number of cosmetic enhancements, including GT Silver paintwork as seen on the Carrera GT, and a ‘Natural Grey’ full leather interior. Exclusive polished wheels, GT3-style side skirts, and a redesigned front bumper featuring the air intakes from a 911 Turbo completed the upgrades.
  • This example was also specified with an electric sunroof, heated sport seats with matching GT Silver hard backs, satellite navigation, cruise control, Bose sound system and CD changer, and a rear windscreen wiper, further adding to its everyday usability.
  • All four wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, with the 225/40 R18 front items dating to 2014 with 5mm of tread remaining, and the 285/30 R18 rear tyres dating to 2015 and 2016 with 6mm of tread remaining – though both rear items were bought and fitted at the same time.
  • Accompanying this 911 are its original service book and other handbooks, contained within the correct Porsche folder, as well as documentation of its maintenance history. The original tool kit and space-saver spare wheel are also included in the sale.

CONDITION

  • The bodywork of this 996 presents very well, with no reported dents or damage.
  • The special GT Silver paintwork is also in good order, with the front bonnet and front wings having previously been resprayed to correct some minor stone chips, while the front air inlets’ slats have been repainted black from their original matching silver finish. Today, there are some very small stone chips and scuffs to the paintwork.
  • This 911 rides on a set of lightweight 18-inch Carrera II alloy wheels, which have been refurbished using a chromed paint to get as close as possible to the shot-blasted and polished factory finish, and they remain in excellent condition.
  • In the cabin, dark ‘Natural Grey’ leather presents very well overall, and while there are some small signs of creasing and wear to their leather upholstery, this is commensurate with the car’s age and mileage.
  • There are no issues with any of the car’s controls, switches or electrical items, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 2 December 2020 at 71,122 miles, resulting in a clean first-time pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This 996’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in June 2020 at 70,721 miles by specialist RSR Auto Services, which replaced the engine oil and filter and spark plugs, while the brake fluid was flushed and replaced with AP Racing 5.1 fluid by DTB Motor Services when the last MOT test was carried out.
  • Prior to this, the car received an annual check-over by RSR Auto Services in May 2018 at 70,420 miles, while a major service including replacement of the spark plugs, flywheel, clutch and ceramic IMS bearing was performed in July 2014 at 65,116 miles, again by RSR Auto Services.
  • In addition, the air conditioning system was recharged in December 2020, and the brake discs and pads, low temperature thermostat and Bank 1 camshaft solenoid actuator were replaced during the previous ownership. The steering rack has also been refurbished.
