2004 MERCEDES-BENZ (W203) C55 AMG ESTATE

This Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG Estate is an eminently usable example of the marque’s high-performance estate car, which houses a muscle car powertrain in discreet business attire. Under the bonnet is a 5.4-litre naturally aspirated V8, producing around 367bhp, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission.

First registered in October 2004, this C55 has six previous keepers on the log book, and it is now offered for sale by the trade. It has evidently been driven and enjoyed as intended, with the odometer now showing 152,387 miles from new.

The vendor is not aware of any significant damage to the bodywork, though the front bumper appears to have slightly large gaps on the corners, which suggests it may have been removed and refitted - possibly when the front grille was replaced. There is also a small dent on the nearside rear quarter. Its Tanzanite Blue metallic paint finish is believed to be original, showing a mark on the nearside front door, some bubbling around the wheel arches, stone chips around the front end, and some marks on the boot lid. It rides on the correct 18-inch five-arm double-spoke alloys, which are in good order with no kerbing marks.

Inside, the black leather is original, and presents very well. There is some slight wear to the suede shoulder panels on the seats, but otherwise the upholstery is in impressive condition considering the mileage. The vendor reports a small dent in the central armrest, scratches around the driver’s door handle, and some marks on the rear seat bench - all of which are shown in the gallery. There is also some wear to the steering wheel and gear lever. The armrest hinge is broken, as are the glove box hinges, and the parking sensors are currently inoperative. Otherwise, there are no known faults, with the electrically adjustable and heated front seats, power sunroof, cruise control, climate control, and infotainment system all working correctly.

The most recent scheduled maintenance was in January 2020 at 151,078 miles, when the engine oil and transmission oil were renewed, and the spark plugs were all replaced. It was also given a service in June 2019 at 150,527 miles, which included renewal of the oil and fuel filters, as well as the coolant and air cleaner; and in April 2018 at 145,595 miles, when the polybelt, differential oil, charcoal filter and engine oil were renewed.

The last MOT test was on 4 November 2020 at 152,369 miles, when it passed with only one advisory regarding slight corrosion to a brake pipe. The previous day, it had failed based on worn anti-roll bar bushes, play in a steering ball joint, and a couple of lighting faults - all of which were evidently rectified.

Accompanying the car is the original owner’s manual, COMAND media user guide, and the C-Class quick start booklet. The document wallet is also present, as well as the navigation DVD.

This Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG Estate is a refined but powerful cruiser, and a sophisticated modern classic that boasts superb versatility. Practical enough to be used as a daily driver, this AMG model is also hugely entertaining on the road, and is accompanied by a terrific V8 soundtrack.
