2004 MERCEDES-BENZ SL 350

This Mercedes-Benz SL 350 is a stylish and enjoyable roadster, presented in a timeless colour scheme and benefitting from a well-documented service history. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.7-litre V6, which produces 242bhp and 258lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. The odometer displays 117,911 miles from new.

First registered on 7 September 2004, this R230-generation SL 350 was purchased by the current owner some four years ago, having belonged to a friend since 2007. Specified in Brilliant Silver metallic with a dark grey leather interior, this hard-top convertible boasts year-round practicality.

This SL’s bodywork is free of any major damage, although the seller notes that there is a crack in the rear bumper, just beneath the nearside light cluster. The nearside front wing has also previously been scraped against a wall, but was resprayed. There are some minor blemishes in the Brilliant Silver paintwork, and a scuff under the bumper on the offside of the car. Overall, the appearance is certainly very fair considering the age and mileage.

The headlights and tail light lenses are in good order, though there is a crack in the mirror-mounted nearside indicator lens. Some of the body rubbers are showing signs of use and wear, and the black strips either side of the rear window exhibit some delamination. This SL rides on its original set of 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, which were refurbished in August 2019.

In the cabin, the dark grey leather is reported to be in very good condition, with only minor wear commensurate with the mileage. The seller states that all of the interior buttons, switches and electrical items work without fault, including the electrically operated convertible roof, which can be opened or closed within 16 seconds.

Original and unmodified, this SL 350 has been well cared for by its current and previous owners and is in excellent mechanical order.

Its most recent routine maintenance was carried out on 28 July 2020 at 117,513 miles by Mercedes-Benz specialist MBS of Exeter. This included replacement of the engine oil and oil filter. New front coil springs were also fitted, along with a new nearside front shock absorber, and replacement front brake pads and wear sensors to attend to all items flagged on the previous day’s MOT test.

Prior to this, the car received a service in July 2019 at 112,987 miles when the spark plugs, brake fluid and battery were changed, and an oil service was performed in July 2018 at 102,755 miles.

The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 28 July 2020 at 117,513 miles, which it passed with no advisories after the front coil springs, nearside front shock absorber and front brake pads were replaced as described above. All four wheels are fitted with 255/45 ZR17 Maxxis tyres, which appear to be in good condition.

Accompanying this open-top tourer are its original handbook, service book and accompanying literature, as well as invoices for repairs and maintenance from 2007 onwards. The original tool kit, spare wheel, first aid kit, emergency triangle, spare floor mats and wind deflector and its cover are also included.

Widely appreciated for its elegant styling and practical folding hard-top, the R230-generation Mercedes-Benz SL 350 is a great value contemporary tourer that boasts comfort and sophistication.
