KEY FACTS
- An exceptionally rare Coupe version of the MX-5; one of just 63 in Type S specification and one of only two believed to be in Australia.
- Its 158 horsepower 1.8-litre four cylinder motor is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission.
- Mazda built 179 of these fixed-roof ‘Roadster Coupes’ for the Japanese market over a period of about one year, with this car being imported to Australia in 2010.
EQUIPMENT AND OPTIONS
- The fixed roof improves chassis rigidity and aerodynamics over the base MX-5, and this Type S features a manual transmission, Bilstein shock absorbers, and a tower strut tower brace at the front.
- Running gear and major components are all original, but the car has been fitted with side skirts, a front air dam and BMW mini side markers, and the wheels have been painted in shadow chrome.
- A Parrot CK3100 Bluetooth hands free kit and Mongoose M15 touch-key automatic dual immobiliser have been installed.
- Sold with the original Mazda Coupe owner’s manual as well as a 2004 MX-5 Miata owner’s manual and detailed service history back to May 2010.
CONDITION
- The Roadster Coupe bodywork has never been damaged and has always been garaged and locked up with a car cover when not in use since arriving in Australia.
- Its factory-applied Miata Red paintwork is in excellent condition with just a very minor stone chip on the bonnet to note.
- The original interior is in place and in very good condition, with the steering wheel centre rubber slightly discoloured.
- Benefiting from regular servicing, the car is mechanically strong and presents with no known faults.
- Annual services for oil and filter changes have been conducted regardless of mileage during the current ownership, most recently at 57,000 km.
SUMMARY
In superb and largely original condition thanks to a lifetime of conscientious care and sparing use, this 2004 Mazda Roadster Coupe Type S drives beautifully and is well equipped. With just 63 of the Type S cars built for the Japanese market, it represents an incredible opportunity to buy the rarest NB-generation MX-5, which would make a fine addition to any collection of modern classics.
