2004 HONDA S2000

This Honda S2000 is a superb example of the Japanese marque’s rev-happy, rear-wheel-drive sports car, presented in unmodified condition and finished in Royal Navy Blue Pearl – and with the rare colour-coded factory hardtop. Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre VTEC inline-four engine, which produces 237bhp and will rev all the way to the 9,000rpm redline. The odometer currently indicates 90,790 miles from new.

First registered in February 2004, this S2000 has just three previous registered keepers on the logbook and has been in the vendor’s collection for three years.

As an early ‘AP1 facelift’ car, it has uprated suspension and body bracing, larger wheels, and stronger gear shift synchros. Given its first registration date, this S2000 benefits from being in the ‘Band K’ annual VED category, which means it costs around 40% less to tax each year than later cars.

The bodywork of this S2000 remains in good order, with flush panels and no suggestion of any prior accident damage. The paint finish is reported to be in excellent condition overall, presenting with just some minor stone chips around the front bumper, commensurate with the car’s age. Its bonnet was repainted two years ago due to a reaction under the original coating.

The headlight lenses, windscreen and windows all appear clear and free of clouding or stone chips, while the exhaust tips and exterior trim also remain in good condition. This S2000’s soft top roof has had small repairs in two places, clearly shown in the photo gallery, but the mechanism works perfectly. Furthermore, this car also comes with the rare hardtop cover and stand. The car rides on the original 17-inch ten-spoke wheels, which appear with some small scratches and minor reactions with the alloy, though present in good order overall.

In the cabin, the black leather upholstery has some common wear to the driver’s seat bolster in particular, but there are no rips or tears in the material. The steering wheel shows some light wear to the main contact points, though the door cards, dashboard surfaces and switches all appear clean and tidy. There are no electrical faults, and no warning lights on the dashboard.

The vehicle was fitted with new rear brake discs in October 2020, while in 2018 new rear brake pads and a new battery were fitted. In the same year, the rocker cover was repainted by Spooner Restorations. The last main service was undertaken in April 2015 at 82,195 miles, where technicians at Toronto Garage in Wirral changed the engine oil and fitted two new brake callipers. The timing chain tensioner was last renewed in 2013. The vendor states that the vehicle will be handed over with a fresh engine oil and filter service having been completed.

The most recent MOT test was on 24 August 2020 at 90,770 miles, which resulted in a pass with an advisory to monitor worn brake discs – though the rear discs have since been replaced. One week earlier, the car initially failed a test due to corrosion around the rear suspension mounting points, though these sections were repaired before the car was re-tested.

The vehicle’s wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres all round, in the correct fitment of 215/45/R17 at the front and 245/40/R17 at the rear. The vendor notes these were fitted around four years ago, and have ample tread remaining.

Accompanying the vehicle is the original S2000 owner’s manual, dealer list and service record, with 10 stamps in the book. The car also comes with a spare wheel, jack and full toolkit, as well as instruction books for the CD player and the hardtop roof and stand.

This Honda S2000 is an unmodified example of the lauded Japanese sports car, famed for its high-revving naturally aspirated VTEC engine. Presented in very good order throughout, this rear-wheel drive modern classic is a great choice for touring or exciting weekend drives alike.
