2004 FERRARI 360 CHALLENGE STRADALE

KEY FACTS

• A well-maintained, track-focused but road-legal supercar in a popular factory specification.
• It is powered by the 3.6-litre ‘Tipo F131’ naturally aspirated V8, which produces 420bhp at 8,500rpm, and drives the rear wheels via a six-speed ‘F1’ automated transmission with paddle shift.
• Delivered new to Europe in January 2004, the car was imported to the UK and sold by Graypaul Nottingham in early 2015. The seller acquired the car nearly one year ago.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Finished in the most popular colour of Rosso Scuderia, this Challenge Stradale rides on the correct silver BBS wheels and features black brake callipers and Scuderia Ferrari wing shields.
• The car’s original carbon-ceramic brake discs are included in the sale but were removed by the current owner to preserve them in July 2021. When removed, the discs showed around 65% wear and the pads around 25% wear. These were replaced with a set of Girodisc 2-piece brakes fitted with fast road pads at a cost of over £4,000.
• Its interior is trimmed in red and black Alcantara with extensive carbon fibre, while the steering wheel features black and red leather. The car retains the correct four-point safety harnesses, as well as the black standard seat belts, which have recently been renewed.
• Factory equipment includes air conditioning as well as the Becker CD/radio head unit.
• It was fitted with a new SmarTrack S5 tracker with D-iDT in 2020.
• A hardwired CTEK connection has also been installed for trickle charging.
• All handbooks and tools are present, along with the original Ferrari cover and an extensive history file.
• Four new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres were fitted around 100 miles ago when a full four-wheel alignment was also carried out.

CONDITION

• A pre-purchase inspection commissioned by the current owner in October 2020 indicated that it may have had some remedial paintwork (the lack of stone chips suggests that this may have been the front end) but the report also stated that there was no evidence of any accident damage.
• Today, its Rosso Scuderia finish is in generally excellent condition, and is well documented in the photo gallery below.
• In the cabin, the Alcantara on the seats shows slight wear on the outer bolsters, but no heavy marks or damage, while the steering wheel and shift paddles appear to be in very good order.
• Some of the switchgear has a slightly ‘sticky’ finish, which is a common foible in Ferraris of this era and is straightforward to rectify.
• No electrical faults have been detected, and there are no warning lights illuminated.
• The mechanical condition is excellent with extensive recent work undertaken.
• The most recent MOT test was on 28 October 2020 at 65,563 km, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

• Its last scheduled maintenance was in November 2020 at 40,700 miles, carried out by Slades Garage in High Wycombe. Following a full pre-purchase inspection, the car received a major service including new cam belts and tensioners (with upgraded bearing), all new gaskets for the inlet manifold and plenum chamber, plus cam cover gaskets and o-rings and new spark plugs. The gearbox was removed and a new rear main oil seal fitted, with the clutch release bearing and limit studs were re-fitted and re-tested with the total cost coming to some £8,100.
• Prior to this, it was serviced in January 2018 at 40,590 miles by Maranello Egham, and in February 2015 at 38,300 miles by Graypaul Nottingham.

With an additional set of steel brakes that need nothing more than bedding in correctly, this Challenge Stradale is ready to enjoy, and will no doubt delight its next owner whether they choose to keep it on the road or explore its limits on track.
