2004 FERRARI 360 CHALLENGE STRADALE

This Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale is a fantastic limited-run supercar, which is presented in a stunning colour combination and has very low mileage from new. It is powered by the 3.6-litre ‘Tipo F131’ naturally aspirated V8, which produces 420bhp at 8,500rpm, and drives the rear wheels via a six-speed ‘F1’ automated transmission with paddle shift. The odometer displays just 5,893 miles. It has previously been damaged and repaired, so interested parties should read the full description before bidding.

Created to tackle both the road and the race circuit, the Challenge Stradale is an even more focused machine than the standard Modena. In total, it is around 100kg lighter, and includes carbon-ceramic brakes, tuned suspension and revised gearbox software as standard, as well as more deeply sculpted bodywork which provides a 50% increase in downforce.

A US market left-hand drive example, this contemporary supercar was delivered new via the supplying dealer in Honolulu, Hawaii. It was purchased by the seller in 2015, and was first registered in the UK in June the same year.

Today, this exotic supercar is in outwardly excellent condition. However, it was involved in an accident in 2013, when the passenger-side of the car came into contact with a highway barrier, and caused bodywork damage all the way down the side of the car. Photos of the damage online suggest that there was no front or rear impact, and the airbags did not deploy. The bodywork was then fully restored, evidently using a number of replacement panels, and resprayed in the original Blu Tour de France. The seller has recently been informed that there is a crack in the rear subframe which requires attention.

Making a welcome change from the more commonly seen factory paint colours, this Challenge Stradale’s Blu Tour de France finish presents well, though there is a slight bubble on the front passenger-side wing. While it did not leave the factory with a Tricolore racing stripe, this was added when the body was repaired. Another change from the factory specification is that the federal side marker lights were deleted, so that the car now appears as per other UK market examples. The car’s recessed Scuderia wing shields, carbon-fibre mirrors and polycarbonate headlight lenses are all correct, and present very well. It rides on 19-inch BBS ‘Challenge’ wheels, which feature some minor chips but are in excellent overall condition; and they house the carbon-ceramic brake discs and black callipers.

In the cabin, the Challenge Stradale marries lightweight materials with luxurious finishes. The lower dashboard and seats are trimmed in rich Cuoio tan leather, and are in great shape, with a few minor marks but no damage to speak of. Ahead, the upper dashboard is clad in black Alcantara, which helps to prevent glare on the windscreen, and the black leather-wrapped steering wheel remains in good order. In line with the car’s weight-saving design, its door cards are gloss-finish carbon-fibre and present well, though there is a small patch of damage on the passenger-side item.

While it is common for Ferraris of this era to suffer from ‘sticky’ buttons, which is caused when their surface coating breaks down, this low mileage example is not afflicted, and all of its controls remain in impressive condition. Furthermore, all of the car’s switches and electrical items work without fault, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

This Ferrari’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in April 2019 at approximately 5,700 miles by United Classic Cars, which also included a fresh set of spark plugs. Prior to this, the car was serviced by Carrozzeria UK in September 2014 and by Ferrari dealer La Collezione in Hawaii in June 2012; however, the seller is unsure of the exact work carried out on these occasions. Services prior to this are also shown in the gallery.

Its most recent MOT test was conducted on 4 March 2021 at 5,893 miles, which it passed first time with no advisories. The front wheels are shod in Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres, while the rears are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport items. All four are described by the vendor as being in excellent condition, with ample tread remaining. The car will be accompanied by its original service book and paperwork documenting its recent service.

This Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale is an engaging and stylish track-focused supercar, which is finished in a rare colour scheme and boasts one of Maranello’s most electrifying exhaust notes. While this example has previously been damaged and repaired, and will likely require a further subframe repair, it is offered with a very sensible reserve to reflect this. Ultimately, the Challenge Stradale still offers a sensational driving experience, and represents an opportunity to acquire a celebrated limited-run supercar with very low mileage.
