2004 ALPINA (E46) B3 S COUPE

This BMW Alpina B3 S Coupe is an incredibly rare bespoke version of the E46 model, presented in outstanding condition and in a stunning factory colour. It is powered by a 300bhp 3.3-litre straight-six engine, driven through the rear wheels via a five-speed ZF automatic transmission with Alpina’s Switch-Tronic shift buttons. The odometer shows just 41,900 miles from new.

In developing its B3 S series of cars, the company further evolved the S52B32 engine, taking it to just over 3.3 litres, and adding a bespoke cylinder head, crankshaft, camshafts, connecting rods, pistons, and new intake and exhaust manifolds. The exhaust system was upgraded and the engine management system reprogrammed.

Compared to the 330i, the B3 S models featured stiffer springs and modified dampers, as well as upgraded brake pads. The rear wheel width was also increased to a nine-inch section, and the car featured a discreet aerodynamic body kit that included the familiar Alpina front splitter.

This particular car is believed to be one of only 35 Coupe versions of the B3 S made for the UK market. Having been completed by BMW in mid-2004, it was subsequently sent to Alpina in Buchloe for its hand-built conversion to B3 S specification. First registered in the UK in November 2004, the clear HPI report shows seven previous registered keepers on the log book - not unusual for such a collectable performance car. It was acquired by the seller in June 2019.

The bodywork and paint are in superb condition. With the exception of a small mark on the front lip spoiler, the stunning Individual Mora Metallic finish looks wonderfully glossy all around the car. All of the light lenses and body trims are in good order, and it features the chrome-look window surrounds to give it a sophisticated and luxurious appearance. The glass is undamaged, with the exception of a stone chip in the windscreen that has received a professional repair. It rides on the instantly recognisable Alpina multi-spoke alloy wheels, which have no kerbing damage, but do have some minor paint flaking and lacquer blemishes.

Inside, the seats are all trimmed in Champagne Nappa leather, which is piped in Mora to match the bodywork. The upholstery presents in superb order, with only signs of light use. There are electrically adjustable sport seats with heating, and memory settings on the driver’s seat. The leather-trimmed steering wheel features Alpina's brand colours of green and blue through the stitching, as well as the Switch-Tronic gear shift controls.

The myrtle wood veneers are in great shape, and there are also Alpina sill covers and floor mats. All of the switchgear is reported to be in good working order. Factory-fitted equipment includes automatic climate control, cruise control, rear parking sensors, the Harman Kardon sound system, and the BMW Business stereo and cassette player, with a six-disc CD changer.

Under the bonnet, the engine bay is very clean and tidy, testament to the care with which its owners have maintained it. Its last scheduled maintenance was at Williams BMW, which consisted of an Inspection II service with renewal of the engine oil and filter. It was also seen and serviced in August 2017 and in May 2015, and has comprehensive history prior to this.

The most recent MOT test was on 30 March 2020 at 41,902 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories whatsoever. The online MOT history suggests that this car has been exceptionally well cared-for, and it has never failed a test. The wheels are shod in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres in size 225/40 ZR18 at the front and 255/35 ZR18 at the rear. They were fitted in mid-2018 and remain.in excellent condition.

The car is accompanied by the original black leather Alpina wallet, housing all of the books, including the rare Alpina supplement. Two sets of keys are also present, along with the tool kit that is stored in the boot.

This BMW Alpina B3 S is believed to be the only UK coupe originally finished in Individual Mora Metallic. In addition to its likely one-of-a-kind specification, it also drives superbly on the road. A true modern classic, the B3 S offers a tremendous blend of comfort, practicality, and pace. This particular car is presented in impressive condition throughout, and would be a credit to any collection.
