2003 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX WAGON

This Subaru Impreza WRX Sport Wagon is an honest, usable example of the practical performance car, presented in a lesser-seen factory paint colour and benefitting from a recent service. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four, which has been remapped to produce 265bhp and drives all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 114,514 miles from new, and it is offered for sale at No Reserve.

First registered in December 2003, this right-hand drive estate’s log book lists four prior keepers. Kept in storage from early 2017 until October 2020, it was acquired by its current owner one year ago, and is now offered for sale.

Featuring all of its original panels, this Impreza’s bodywork is in good shape, with no signs of prior accident damage and only a few small dents, including one on the bonnet, beside the WRX’s signature scoop. Overall, the rare Woodland Green metallic paintwork is in reasonable order, with various stone chips, scuffs and scratches across its surface, which is commensurate with the car’s use and mileage.

The seller states that repair work has been carried out on both of the rear wheel arches and possibly the near-side rear door, and there is bubbling and surface corrosion on both of the front wheel arches. Furthermore, the small trim piece which covers the lower front edge of the rear passenger-side wheel arch is missing, and so is the rear driver’s-side wheel arch liner; however, these could of course be easily replaced. It rides on a set of 17-inch five-spoke double-arm alloy wheels, which present well and feature only a few minor blemishes on their surfaces.

Inside, the original hardwearing cloth upholstery is in excellent condition, with the front seats showing few signs of wear and the rear bench appearing to have been used very infrequently. Elsewhere, there are some general signs of wear to the trim in line with the car’s age, including discolouration to the leather rim of the factory-fitted steering wheel. An original Subaru dog guard separates the rear load space from the rest of the interior, and this Impreza is still fitted with its original stereo system. The seller states that all of the car’s buttons, switches and electrical items work as they should – including the climate control system, electric windows and central locking – and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Offered for sale in excellent mechanical order, this performance estate was treated to a comprehensive service in October 2020, which was carried out by James Hughes at Lone Pine Garage. This included replacement of all of the car’s fluids and filters, as well as its spark plugs, battery and the alternator. The cam belt was also inspected, and while it is not known when it was last replaced, it appears to be in good condition.

Largely unmodified, the car’s performance has been subtly upgraded by an ECU remap, which was carried out by Evotune and boosts its output to 265bhp, an uprated Walbro fuel pump and a Scoobyworld stainless-steel sports exhaust.

Its latest MOT test was conducted on 23 October 2020 at 113,247 miles, which resulted in a pass with no advisories. It initially failed a previous test the same day as the SRS warning light was illuminated and the check engine light was on, but these were investigated and rectified. All four wheels are fitted with Toyo T1-R tyres, which date to 2016 and have 6-7mm of usable tread remaining.

The car will be accompanied by its original handbooks, fully stamped service book and tool kit, as well as a file of receipts for past maintenance work.

This Subaru Impreza WRX Sport Wagon is a practical and exciting modern classic, presented in the rare factory colour of Woodland Green and benefitting from a comprehensive recent service. Featuring a handful of minor performance modifications but cosmetically standard, it is ready for its next owner to enjoy as they see fit, with no need to worry about the occasional scuff or scratch.
