This Porsche 986 Boxster is a tidy example of a thoroughly engaging and rewarding mid-engined sports car. It is powered by a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing 217bhp, driven through the rear wheels via a slick five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 93,940 miles.

First registered on 4 November 2003, there are just two previous keepers on the log book, who the vendor states were husband and wife. It was initially run by him from a leasing company for the first three years, before transferring to her name for the next four. It was then acquired by the current owner in June 2010 with around 85,000 miles on the odometer. During the last 10 years, it has always been garaged when not in use, and has had no use over the winter months - remaining as a second car for summer use only.

Today, its bodywork and silver paint are described as being in good order. The vendor notes that the rear bumper was previously damaged and repaired after a low-speed reversing impact with a post, but it now presents well as the photo gallery shows. The paint on the driver’s door edge is reported as being quite thin, and there is also a small 10mm blemish on the nearside rear wing. It rides on the original 17-inch alloy wheels, which are in generally good condition, though do have some small chips and grazes around the rims.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather, and is reported to be in excellent condition for its age and mileage. There is a small mark, around 20mm in size, on the driver’s seat back, but otherwise only very minor wear and discolouration. The trim around the dashboard and door panels is in very good order. Factory fitted equipment includes automatic air-conditioning - though this has never worked in the last 10 years due to a corroded evaporator - as well as the original radio and CD player.

Its last scheduled maintenance was carried out in 2019 at approximately 93,000 miles by Glovers Autocare Garage in Ilkley, which consisted of an oil and filter change, and replacement of the oil separator. The same workshop has cared for the car over the last seven years, and have carried out both regular services and preventative maintenance where required. The alternator was renewed in 2018, new top mounts were fitted in 2017, a new water pump and thermostat in 2012 and new front coil springs in 2011.

The most recent MOT test was on 20 October 2020 at 93,904 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with only one advisory regarding some corrosion on the offside rear brake pipe. The front tyres are Vredestein Sportrac items fitted in 2015, and have around 5mm of tread, while at the rear there are Continental SportContact tyres, fitted in 2010 and with 3mm remaining.

Accompanying the car are all of the original handbooks, as well as the tools and spare wheel, and there is a complete set of invoices from the current ownership.

This Porsche 986 Boxster 2.7 is a smart example of an acclaimed sports car. The vendor says it is a great car for cruising on summer days, with a characterful flat-six engine and comfortable ride, but also with a slick manual gearbox for optimum driver involvement. For someone seeking a fun and great value modern classic, there can be few better sports cars for the money.
