2003 PORSCHE 911 (996.2) CARRERA 2

This upgraded Porsche 996.2 Carrera is a smart performance car that offers more than meets the eye. A lot of money has been spent turning this into a track-focused machine that is also great fun on the road, maximising the potential of its 3.6-litre flat-six engine and six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows 66,842 miles from new.

This 911 was first registered on 7 March 2003, and now has five previous keepers on the log book. In 2006, the car was logged as a repairable Category D insurance loss, which the seller understands was due to a gearbox fault that required a replacement unit. The car has been in the seller’s hands for 10 years, and has been kept in very good condition, with regular annual servicing without fail.

The striking Cobalt Blue Metallic bodywork is reported to be in good condition, and the seller notes the car has previously had some respray work. The headlights have been restored and the 997 Turbo wheels have also been fully refurbished and powder coated. The seller notes some minor scratches on the rear bumper, but as these images show, this car’s paintwork is generally in very good order for its age. The keen-eyed will also note that the car sits slightly lower than standard, thanks to the track-orientated Gaz coilover suspension modifications.

Inside, this 911 is very smart, with original blue leather interior trim and blue Alcantara roof lining. There are no major blemishes, and all the original fittings are present and correct. The photos appear to show some small marks on the door cards, but it is in remarkably good condition for a 17-year-old car. The seller notes no faults or warning lights. A centre console ‘delete’ kit has been fitted, offering more room for taller drivers.

This car’s last service was carried out in March 2020, by which point the car had covered 66,755 miles. The work, also which included headlight restoration, replacing the horn assembly and fresh brake fluid, was carried out by Lancashire-based Porsche specialist Jasmine PorschaLink. That service followed a major service in March 2019, when the same specialist also replaced the rear parking sensors, fixed coolant and oil leaks, replaced the rear main seal (RMS) and fitted new coolant pipes. The firm also fitted a new clutch, new brake pads and new rear tyres.

During the current custodian’s ownership, the car also had the IMS bearing seal replaced and upgraded in 2013, while Gaz Gold lowered coilover suspension was fitted in 2015. That is among a number of upgrades listed in full below, which include stainless steel brake hoses, rear wheel spacers and GT3 adjustable front lower control arms. The front tuning fork arms have been replaced, too, while there are Hucker anti-roll bar kits on the front and rear suspension, an additional monitoring switch for the rear spoiler and NGK iridium spark plugs.

Servicing has been carried out regularly, with records revealing maintenance every spring since 2010, regardless of the miles covered. All the services have been carried out by Porsche dealers or specialists. Further to the seller’s understanding of the Category D note from 2006, it is believed that the gearbox has been replaced.

The most recent MOT test was on 11 March 2020 at 66,755 miles, which resulted in a pass – after the horn was fixed – with an advisory note about perishing on the rear tyres. However, the seller states that it was tested while wearing track wheels and tyres, so it is not relevant to road use. Furthermore, the car is fitted with fresh Michelin Pilot Sport 2 rear tyres on the road wheels, which were fitted in March 2019 and have covered less than 700 miles.

A comprehensive service history is included with the car, detailing every scheduled maintenance check since the first annual service in 2004. Also included are all the original handbooks and the tool set, not to mention numerous receipts for modification and maintenance work carried out.

Time, love and money have clearly been invested in this Porsche 911 Carrera. The lowered suspension and engine modifications have given the car greater aural and visual appeal, as well as improving the performance and handling. If you are seeking a cherished sports coupe that is ready to enjoy on the road or the track, with tried and tested upgrades, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
