This Harley-Davidson Sportster is a unique modern cruiser, which has been custom built by renowned specialist Charlie Stockwell and is presented in outstanding condition. In place of its original 883cc V-twin is a 1300cc unit, which is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 10,820 miles from new.
First registered on 3 October 2000, this Sportster began life as a yellow XL883 model, and has two previous keepers on the V5C. It was rebuilt by Charlie Stockwell at Warr’s Harley-Davidson as a retirement gift for bike enthusiast and former Olympic high jumper, Ben Challenger, who is now offering it for sale. This stylish Harley has been stored inside a heated garage and connected to a trickle charger to keep its battery in optimum condition.
As well as its uprated engine, the bike has also been fitted with a custom exhaust system, a polished drag bar with cotton tape grips and a hand-made tan leather saddle. Its frame has been fully refinished with black powder coat, and the fuel tank has been painted with Japanese motifs by Image Design Custom, Camberley.
As a result of its careful storage and limited use, this Sportster remains in excellent cosmetic order, with no reported damage to its fuel tank, frame or mudguards. The black powder coated finish has a smooth and glossy appearance around the entire bike, and the rising sun and waves painted on its fuel tank have been executed to a high standard, and are free of any marks or blemishes.
In recognition of its owner’s achievements, the Olympic rings logo has also been painted on the centre of the fuel tank and beneath the rear number plate, solidifying this bike’s links to athletics success.
This Harley also features lowered handlebars for a more aggressive riding position and the custom exhaust has wrapped headers for a more classic look. Warr’s badging provides an attractive accent, while leaving onlookers in little doubt as to who built this stunning custom machine. The bike has been fitted with a hand-made tan leather seat, which is in great shape and will take on a charming patina in due course.
This Sportster’s most recent routine maintenance was a full service, which was carried out in June 2020 at 10,692 miles by Warr’s Harley Davidson, Chelsea, and included replacement of the engine oil and oil filter. Prior to this, the bike was serviced in March 2016 by Harley Davidson Oxford and in March 2013 when its engine was rebuilt by Warr’s Harley Davidson.
Its latest MOT test was conducted on 18 June 2020 at 10,692 miles, resulting in a clean, first-time pass. The vendor states that both of the bike’s Firestone DLX tyres are in good condition, and they appear to have ample tread remaining.
It will be accompanied by its original handbook and document folder, documentation of its service history, past MOT test certificates and its two keys.
Fully customised by renowned builder Charlie Stockwell of Warr’s Harley-Davidson and painted by Image Design Custom, this 2000 Harley-Davidson Sportster is a unique and highly attractive custom cruiser, which is offered from the private collection of an Olympian who is also a true bike enthusiast. Fitted with a 1300cc V-twin, it has more than enough ‘go’ to back up its aggressive styling touches, and it would make a fine addition to any collection of two-wheeled machines or custom vehicles in particular.
