2003 FORD FOCUS RS (MK1)

This 2003 Ford Focus RS is an original and unmodified example of an iconic hot hatch. The performance model brought back the marque’s ‘Rallye Sport’ moniker after a six-year hiatus following the last Escort RS Cosworth. It is powered by a 212bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, driven through the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and Quaife differential. The odometer shows 70,738 miles from new, which is fully supported by the comprehensive service history.

First registered on 13 August 2003, this Focus RS has just two previous registered keepers from new. The first owned it from 2003 until 2013, and the second from then until 2019. It has been with a trade owner for the last year, kept in dry and secure storage. It is covered by a clean MOT certificate until January 2021, so once taxed it is ready to enjoy on the road again.

All examples of the first Ford Focus RS were painted in the same Imperial Blue hue, and the bodywork of this particular car remains in great condition, as shown in the full set of images below. At the front, the engine bay is clean and tidy. The car sits on the original set of 18-inch OZ Racing alloy wheels, which present superbly.

The interior is also in excellent order. Its Sparco bucket seats are trimmed in black leather, with the facings in charcoal Alcantara and blue leather stripes. There is no damage and very little wear to speak of on the upholstery, and it even comes with the original RS floor mats. The Sparco handbrake lever and gear knob are also in great shape.

Cabin equipment includes push-button start, air-conditioning and the Ford 6006E stereo system with a six-disc CD changer. The rear seats are in superb condition with few signs of use, and the boot is also neat and tidy with no damage or unsightly scuffs from loading.

This Focus RS starts, runs and drives without fault, and has evidently been very well looked-after by its two previous keepers. The first owner in particular was meticulous about maintenance, having the car serviced every year from 2004 to 2011 without fail.

After this, in 2013 at 69,355 miles, the car received a major service, which included replacement of the cambelt. In 2018, at 70,557 miles, it was given a fresh service that comprised of engine oil and oil filter renewal, along with a new set of spark plugs, as well as rear brake discs and pads. During the vendor’s ownership, the auxiliary belt and tensioner have been replaced, and a new power steering pipe has also been fitted.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 4 January 2020 at 70,746 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. The alloys are fitted with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres in size 225/40 ZR18 all round, which all have a good level of tread remaining.

Accompanying the car are all of the original books, including the stamped warranty and service record, along with two keys and the remote fob, and a period sales brochure. The only missing item is the leather RS book pouch.

This Ford Focus RS is an unmolested example of an exciting hot hatch, which is also presented in genuinely outstanding condition. While many of these cars have been heavily modified, this remains in its original factory specification. It is a great opportunity to acquire a collector-quality modern classic, which is also great fun to drive on the road.
